What's caulicamp!?
caulicamp is:
- a multi-day event near Sydney for terminally online Australians, guests from across the ocean, and their friends, to get together and go outside
- a "regional vibe", which is to say, heavily inspired by vibecamp
- a place filled with a wide variety of people in tpot ("This Part of Twitter") or who probably would be in tpot if they had an active Twitter account, such as EAs, mystical types (meditators, authentic relators, tarot-deck users), tech bros (gender neutral), rationalists, post-rationalists, critical-rationalists, meta-rationalists, and many others!
OK, but really, what is it???
Ultimately it's what you make it! It's a space for this extended community to come together, meet each other, form deep connections, bring our own activities, gifts, and vibes to share with everyone else.
It's also part of a mission to build a larger tpot-ish community a bit closer to home for Australians and New Zealanders. The Americans have vibecamp, the Europeans have jesscamp, it's time for Australasia to get its own camp.
Who's hosting?
caulicamp will be hosted by cauliflower (@cauliflwr_human), with help from Eliot (@Eliot__Red), Chris (@chriswaterguy), and many other volunteers.
Location
caulicamp is at Camp Wombaroo, in the beautiful Southern Highlands of New South Wales.
It's less than a 2-hour drive from most parts of Sydney, and a 1h30m drive from the airport. It's also a 20-min drive from Mittagong train station, which takes around 2h10m to get to from Sydney Central station and the airport stations by train.
We will be ferrying people from the train station if necessary, but if you have a car and will be driving to caulicamp, please help other attendees by offering to carpool in the discord server. We will have a discord server to help coordinate this, as well as pre/post-camp couch-surfing and AirBnBs.
Inclusions
Your ticket includes:
- 3 nights accomodation
- Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner (9 meals total)
- Snacks, soft drinks, tea, coffee
- Budget to help pay for equipment and other things for entertainment, events, and activities
Food
The food will be predominantly vegetarian or vegan. Some side dishes will have meat as an ingredient. The venue also has a no-nuts policy, so everything we serve will be nut-free.
Eliot and Chris will be leading the food preparation efforts, but we need volunteers to help out, so please be prepared to help with cooking at least one meal.
Yes, there will be cauliflower.
Accommodation and tickets
The accommodation will be dormitory-style cabins of 6-8 bunk beds.
There is one room of 4 bunk beds and five two-bed share rooms with ensuites. These will be set-aside for people with special needs, families, and volunteers, before being offered to others.
Please contact me directly if you have an accessibility need, or are planning to bring your children along, so that we can accomodate you.
The site has a dining hall, two meeting room spaces (one which is partitioned off from the dining hall), multiple campfire areas, and shared shower/toilet blocks in each cabin area and near the dining hall.
Towels and bed sheets will be provided. Pillows will be provided for people traveling interstate, and blankets will not be provided.
Please coordinate which people you'd like to be in a cabin with before cabin ticket sales close as we will be confirming allocations shortly after.

Events and Activities
Here at caulicamp we value initiative, and participants are strongly encouraged to run their own events.
We have a few events lined up already, and many more are in the works!
- Group Musical Improv Sesh (All Abilities)
- By cauliflower
- Come and make some noise with us in a semi-coordinated fashion. We'll have kalimbas (thumb pianos), various percussion instruments, and whatever you decide to bring along!
- Pressure Cooker
- By scrublette (@Actualwebutante)
- An emotional 20-30 minutes bringing up your rage and frustration in a way that recognizes it, controls it, and dances with it without acting upon it, and then slowly moving the body to contort it and bring it back down.
- Jhana Junkie
- By Eliot
- "You want jhana? I'll give you jhana. Take all the jhana you want."
- STATUS GAMES
- By @shakaz_ et al.
- An exploration of status through improv exercises and authentic relating games
- Inner Work: Magick, Theories of Consciousness, and Algorithms -- An Interactive Workshop
- By @maxflowminclout
- The EA FTX Retrospective: A Retrospective
- Also by @maxflowminclout
- A talk reflecting on the reflections of the EA community on what happened with FTX, by a non-Effective Altruist who has spent a lot of time researching the topic and also works in proprietary trading
- (The only real "talk" cauliflower is allowing because he expects it to be good and interesting to a non-trivial chunk of attendees)
Also, we're currently expecting a lot of musical instruments from various people for ad-hoc jamming and campfire tunes, and encourage you to bring one or two as well!
If you're planning to run an event/activity, or are otherwise keen for something to run, please let us know (preferably via discord) so we can add it to the event list/schedule, and please let us know if you would like us to allocate budget towards your event for things like equipment hire and consumables.
Rules
Like other tpot camps, we prefer to be light on rules, but there are always a few things we can be clear that we have zero tolerance for:
- Physical and sexual assault will not be tolerated
- No doxxing (i.e. no publicly revealing the name or personal details of someone without their consent)
- No photography of any attendee without their consent
Identifying other forms of misconduct is at the discretion of the organizing team. We will ask you to leave without a refund if we deem it appropriate.
The venue itself also has some rules:
Alcohol
The venue requires us to have someone with a responsible service of alcohol (RSA) certificate serving alcohol only, and alcohol is only permitted in the dining hall and near the campfire.
You're will be free to bring your own alcohol, but it must be kept with us until the evenings. We strongly prefer you only bring pre-mixed drinks, so that our volunteer does not have to do as much work pouring and mixing drinks.
Campfire and fire-related activities
Lighting fires (including for firespinning and similar activities) is subject to restrictions from the state government. Some days, the Illawarra/Shoalhaven region may be subject to a total fire ban, meaning we cannot light the campfire or allow any fire jam events to proceed.
There are forecasts for these bans, but they are not confirmed until the afternoon before, so we encourage anyone considering running events involving fire to be prepared for this, whether running the event on a different day or providing alternatives to fire.
(UPDATE: Friday will have no fire ban! Saturday looks good too!)
Additionally, note that venue's policy is that smoking is only permitted at the camp fire area adjacent to the dining hall.
Noise restrictions
Amplified music is allowed outdoors until 11pm, and within the dining hall area until midnight. Any dance parties during the evenings will be held in the dining hall area, and doors and windows will be closed at 11pm. All noise needs to be kept to a minimum after midnight.
