What's caulicamp!?
caulicamp is an annual multi-day gathering of likeminded people which runs near Sydney, inspired by vibecamp.
What brings us together is hard to describe. Many of us found each other from "This Part of Twitter" (tpot), others of us know each other from the real, physical world, often through communities formed around Effective Altruism, meditation, authentic relating, technology, and (post-)rationality. Some of us are friends from other places that just vibe really well with the rest.
We exist in the intersection of the intellectual and the experiential. Most of us are massive nerds
OK, but really, what is it???
Ultimately it's what you make it! It's a space for this extended community to come together, meet each other, form deep connections, bring our own activities, gifts, and vibes to share with everyone else.
It's also part of a mission to build a larger tpot-ish community a bit closer to home for Australians and New Zealanders.
Who's hosting?
caulicamp is hosted by cauliflower (@cauliflwr_human), with help from Eliot (@Eliot__Red), Chris (@chriswaterguy), and many other volunteers.
Location
caulicamp is at Camp Wombaroo, next to the Jellore State Forest in the beautiful Southern Highlands of New South Wales.
It's less than a 2-hour drive from most parts of Sydney, and a 1h30m drive from the airport. It's also a 20-min drive from Mittagong train station, which takes around 2h10m to get to from Sydney Central station and the airport stations by train.
We will be ferrying people from the train station, but if you have a car and will be driving to caulicamp, please help other attendees by offering to carpool in the discord server. We will have a discord server to help coordinate this, as well as pre/post-camp couch-surfing and AirBnBs.
Venue details
The venue has a dining hall, two meeting room spaces (one which is partitioned off from the dining hall, the other which is a short walk uphill from the dining hall), multiple campfire areas, and shared shower/toilet blocks in each cabin area and near the dining hall. There is also ample space to pitch up tents.
We are expecting more people this year, so we are planning to set up marquees as event spaces as well.
Weather
During April, the Southern Highlands is usually warm and sunny during the day, but the temperature will drop once the sun goes down. It's also very likely we will see some rain during the camp.
We recommend bringing some warm clothing as well as a raincoat or umbrella. If you're camping in a tent, we strongly recommend a tent that is designed to withstand storms and not just a festival tent.
Internet access
You may struggle to get phone reception at Camp Wombaroo. Fortunately they provide two options for internet access: Starlink, and a secondary fixed wireless connection.
Starlink is only available near the main office building, which is slightly far from the dining hall but still within range. The secondary connection has access points in all buildings, including cabins.
Kangaroos
Last caulicamp, the site was filled with wild kangaroos, and even a wombat! (We assume this is where Wombaroo got its name)
It's likely they'll be around again this camp. We have no reason to believe they won't be, other than that Wombaroo is hosting a large festival just a couple days before caulicamp that might have scared them off, so we're not making any guarantees for our international friends, but we still think it's quite likely you'll get to see some.
Inclusions
Your ticket includes:
- 4 nights accomodation
- Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner (12 meals total, no lunch on the first day)
- Snacks, soft drinks, tea, coffee
- Budget to help pay for equipment and other things for entertainment, events, and activities
Food
At least half the food available will be vegan. Anything that isn't vegan will be limited to pasture-raised red meat, dairy, and eggs. The venue also has a no-nuts policy, so everything we serve will be nut-free (coconut is not considered a nut by the venue).
Please specify all your dietary requirements and preferences when you buy your ticket so we have a full understanding of how to cater to everyone. We prefer to err on the side of over-catering vegan food and not over-catering animal products.
Eliot and Chris will be leading the food preparation efforts, but we need volunteers to help out, so please be prepared to help with cooking at least one meal.
Yes, there will be cauliflower.
Accommodation and tickets
The accommodation will be dormitory-style cabins of 6-8 bunk beds.
There is one room of 4 bunk beds and five two-bed share rooms with ensuites. These will be set-aside for people with special needs, families, and volunteers, before being offered to others.
Please contact us directly if you have an accessibility need, or are planning to bring your children along, so that we can accomodate you.
Towels and bed sheets will be provided. Pillows will be provided only for people travelling interstate/internationally, and blankets will not be provided, so bring your sleeping bag.
Please coordinate which people you'd like to be in a cabin with before cabin ticket sales close as we will be confirming allocations shortly after.

Events and Activities
Here at caulicamp we value initiative, and participants are strongly encouraged to run their own events and activities.
We run caulicamp unconference-style, so we don't publish any schedule of events in advance of the camp, but we have a session on the first morning for people to talk about what they want to see, and offer up what events they would like to run and find a time and place for them. Additionally, while these semi-planned events are a big part of caulicamp, and the planning session helps initial structure to kick things off, much of the magic of the camp lies in what people do together organically or spontaneously.
That said, here are some examples of events and activities that were run last year:
- Circling and authentic relating events
- Deep dive talks into various topics in the tpot canon (e.g. FTX retrospective, mewing)
- "Charisma for the uncharismatic" workshop
- Dance events
- Bodywork
- Yoga
- Vocal improvisation
- Slacklining
We encourage you to bring your musical instruments, board games/cards, and sports equipment.
If you're thinking of running an event/activity that requires some equipment you don't have, please let us know (preferably via discord) and we'll see if we can allocate some of our budget towards it.
Rules
Like other tpot camps, we prefer to be light on rules, but there are always a few things we can be clear that we have zero tolerance for:
- Physical and sexual assault will not be tolerated
- No doxxing (i.e. no publicly revealing the name or personal details of someone without their consent)
- No publicly publishing of photos of any attendee without their consent
Identifying other forms of misconduct is at the discretion of the organizing team. We will ask you to leave without a refund if we deem it appropriate.
The venue itself also has some rules:
Alcohol
The venue requires us to have someone with a responsible service of alcohol (RSA) certificate serving alcohol only, and alcohol is only permitted in the dining hall and near the campfire.
You are free to bring your own alcohol, but it must be kept with us until the evenings. We strongly prefer you only bring bottles/cans of beer/cider/etc so that our volunteer does not have to do as much work pouring and mixing drinks.
Campfire and fire-related activities
Lighting fires (including for firespinning and similar activities) is subject to restrictions from the state government. Some days, the Illawarra/Shoalhaven region may be subject to a total fire ban announced the afternoon before, meaning we cannot light the campfire or allow any fire jam events to proceed.
We don't expect this to be a problem in April, but we encourage anyone considering running events involving fire to be prepared for this, whether running the event on a different day or providing alternatives to fire.
Campfires must be attended at all times, so the last person to leave a campfire needs to put it out.
Additionally, note that venue's policy is that smoking is only permitted at the camp fire area adjacent to the dining hall, and you must be 4 metres away from the entrance to the hall.
Noise restrictions
Amplified music is allowed outdoors until 11pm, and within the dining hall area until midnight. Any dance parties during the evenings will be held in the dining hall area, and doors and windows will be closed at 11pm. All noise needs to be kept to a minimum after midnight.
Swimming
There is a water hole on site. Swimming is allowed, but it isn't the most pleasant water to swim in, and is at your own risk. Any children must be supervised. Swimming while intoxicated is not allowed. Wombaroo has stated there will be no public nudity on their site, so skinny-dipping is not allowed.
