Cavelidh

Sat 13 Mar 2027 5:00 PM - 11:00 PM Chislehurst Caves, Caveside Close, Chislehurst, BR75NL

It doesn’t take long after Haven has faded from the landscape once more before the cold of the long dark starts to settle in. On the peaks surrounding the High Bulwark in Syradonia, as the daylight hours fade so too do the greys and murks of the mountain stone, giving way to blue-white hues of freshly fallen snow. It is a rare sight indeed for those not from the Districts beneath; a sight both breath-taking and welcoming for those that call Syradonia home.

As one such day draws to a close, there is what could be mistaken for an explosion out of one side of the peaks. A colony of bats erupts from a fissure within the rock, the heat of the day’s fading light carrying them aloft with a blistering screech. They circle above the High Bulwark for a brief moment, before firing off in all directions.

Some immediately swoop back down onto the High Bulwark, landing on balconies or slipping through arrowslits carved out of the stone. Others have further to travel, soaring across the mountains and valleys to deliver a message - or more specifically, an invitation.

A number make it as far as the Lykerstaines in Morvalis, coming to roost on tall masts in Port Ravesso, or flitting above the plains of the Urdrevan. A few more are luckier and wing their way across the Kairosi isles or come to rest on the crenelles above the portcullis out of Hammerstadt leading onto the Charnal Road.

Three more, seemingly blessed by the Traveller, make their landing leagues away from their nest on the far side of the seas. One has to be coaxed down from straying too far into the Valdreathi Hedge. Another surprises Wonderfolk on patrol near Thornsthorpe. A tavern owner on the Moonvigil Isle becomes accustomed to a new guest in their rafters.

Where the bats cannot reach, people can. The invitation that each of these messengers carried is passed on, through word of mouth and by hand, papyrus scrolls shedding pieces of themselves and their ink as they are laid on tables and hung on message boards. But all of them are to the same tune, a rare chance to see the marvels of Syradonia and to spend an evening in merriment and entertainment deep below the earth.

Greetings to you, Citizens of Elandra!

The Cavern of the Blessed Colony (AKA Dave’s Bastards) formally invites you all to our home, deep in the Caves of Syradonia!

We are hosting a Cavelidh. A night filled with music, laughter, singing, food, and plenty of drink involved.

OC INFO

This is a Menhir’s Fate Player Event, it is open to all players of any nation.

Dress code: Practical Finery. We are here to party and have fun now that the high bulwark has been protected; but it is a cave so practicality is also needed. Layers. Fancy layers.

Food & Drink

Cash Drinks Bar: There will be an OC professional bar in the Tavern section of the cave that due to poor signal within the cave, only takes cash. To reiterate, it is CASH BAR ONLY.

A variety of finger food snacks and nibbles will be made available throughout the night itself, we would advise you to have something to eat before attending the event and enjoy the snacks throughout the evening.

We will be catering to vegetarian and vegan dietary requirements - if you have a specific allergy or dietary requirement, please use the 'Contact Us' section of the page so you can let us know and we will cater to your requirement.

Ceilidh Band Dance

We have hired a professional Ceilidh Band to perform for us on the night, they will be providing music and dance instruction for you to follow, the dance is simple but can be quite intensive.

A ceilidh is a traditional Scottish social dance event where a live band plays and a Caller leads you through simple dance moves.

Safety brief

This is a real cave system where the ground is uneven, sensible footwear should be worn. If you’d wear it at Haven, it’s perfect for the caves. Please DO NOT wear high heels or unstable footwear for the event.

The caves are a cool steady temperature, please ensure you wear your layers like you would an evening at Haven. We would recommend easy to remove layers so you can enjoy the Ceilidh Dance, as this will no doubt keep you warm.

We will have a limited number of warm blankets and throws to give out for use in the evening, please return them back to us at the end.

Before the evening begins, you will be informed of the cave marshals, please follow their guidance like you would a ref at Menhirs Fate. Marshals are there for your safety in traversing the cave system and they will direct you during an emergency.

IC Light Sources: Please bring along your own IC Light source for the event. While the caves are well lit, for safety it would be advised to bring a personal light source to help you navigate the caves. This can also add some extra cool immersion to the site.

Accessibility

Unfortunately due to the site itself, it is not wheelchair accessible. There is a 9-step staircase leading down to the caves and then an uneven stone incline leading down deeper into the caves.

The cave system itself is riddled with a few steps and completely uneven terrain and a few low ceilings, marshals will be on hand to assist traversing the area. We cannot accept liability and give no refunds if you arrive at the event and decide you are unable to enter the site.

FAQs:

Will there be parking at the event?

Yes. Chislehurst caves have a free car park attached with ample parking.

Will there be combat?

This will be a non-combat event. For both safety and IC reasons, there will be no combat sanctioned at this event

Should we bring weapons and armour?

As above, there will be no combat at this event. You may bring weapons and armour for aesthetic purposes, if you wish.

Will there be any plot based, IC sanctioned activity?

We will be following the guidelines set forth by the Menhirs Fate team accordingly for player events. Event content will not include plot, peril, or threats. This is purely a social event for existing Menhirs Fate characters. Please refer to the Menhirs Fate wiki for further information.

What food will be there? Will it be allergy friendly?

Food will be finger food and nibbles.

If you have allergy requirements, please use the ‘Contact Us’ option on this page to let us know. We will be organising food closer to the event and will take these into consideration.

What are the OC facilities like?

There are toilets at the site (both urinals and stalls), there are areas for changing as well as lockers for storage. Anything left is at player discretion and we are not responsible for any items left. The Bastards will do a cursory sweep of the venue before leaving for the night, if you misplace anything please ask us or the venue in case it was left out.

There will be a quiet space near the entrance for players to take a break for some brief respite.

If private areas are required for planned personal reasons, please use the ‘Contact Us’ option on this page to let us know and we will try to accommodate.

Will Dave be there?

The prodigal son will be making an appearance. Dave has been there the whole time.

What is the situation with local accommodation?

There are a large number of hotels, both budget and luxury, within 15 minutes of the caves. Chislehurst is also within Greater London so connections are available further afield.

Fun activities other than dancing?

The caves also include a small stage where people can perform poetry, songs, story telling, or anything else one does with a stage. We would welcome members across Elandra to step up and show off their creative side.
