This one-day training gives you practical tools to turn planetary science into clear, credible narratives that cut through the noise and inspire change.

Deep dive into the Planetary Boundaries science, the most thorough and systemic sustainability framework. Then, apply the Planetary Communications framework (developed by the Stockholm Resilience Centre) to craft messages that cut through the noise, address psychological barriers, and motivate action.

  • Build a working understanding of the nine Planetary Boundaries: a comprehensive sustainability framework describing the Earth systems that keep our planet stable and resilient.
  • Discover how each boundary is measured and the interactions and co-benefits between Earth systems.
  • Use the Planetary Communications framework, developed by the Stockholm Resilience Centre, to turn complex evidence into messaging that feels reliable, relatable, and relevant to drive action.
  • Learn strategies and tactics to fight and address psychological barriers to action and environmental misinformation.


Format:

Designed for an intimate group of 7 professionals, with a gamified learning experience,  opportunities to ask questions, test ideas, share best practices and receive facilitator input throughout the day.


Agenda 

9am-12:30 pm: Planetary boundaries fresco workshop
A hands-on, collaborative business game to explore the nine planetary boundaries - the Earth systems that keep our planet stable and resilient. You’ll leave with a clearer grasp of:

  • The causes and effects of overshoot
  • How boundaries interconnect, including co-benefits and tipping point dynamics
  • The key data and control variables for each boundary
  • Systemic solutions through a planetary accounting lens

12:30-2 pm: Lunch & community of practice
Share challenges, best practices, and insights with peers over lunch. Build connections with fellow professionals navigating the same complexities in sustainability communication.

2pm-4:30 pm: crafting communications that drive action
Sustainability science is urgent, but its impact hinges on how it’s communicated. In this session, you’ll:

  • unpack the psychological barriers to environmental action—both internal and external
  • shift from data-driven messaging to designing communications based on desired outcomes
  • explore the nine principles of the Planetary Communications framework, with real-world examples and case studies to illustrate how to make your narratives more reliable, relatable, and relevant
  • Collaborate to apply the framework to some case studies (bring your own or use provided ones)

4:30-5 pm: Key takeaways and wrap-up
Reflect on the day’s insights and leave with actionable strategies to elevate your sustainability storytelling.
