FORESTCARBOVISION Living Lab III - Co-Designing Skills for Forest Carbon Farming

Fri 19 Dec 2025 10:00 - 16:00 CECAS, Myross Wood House, Leap, P81 Y192

Join us for our third FORESTCARBOVISION Living Lab, a full-day, hands-on workshop exploring forest carbon farming, drone-based carbon measurement, and climate-resilient woodland practices. This event brings together forest owners, community groups, researchers, NGOs, and environmental practitioners to co-develop practical approaches and solutions for Ireland’s emerging forest carbon-farming landscape.

This event is delivered as part of the Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic (NPA) project FORESTCARBOVISION, with partners attending from Ireland and Finland.

Who Should Attend?

  • Forest owners and managers

  • Community & environmental groups

  • Researchers and practitioners

  • Local stakeholders with an interest in climate action, biodiversity, or land use

  • Anyone wishing to learn about or contribute to Ireland’s forest carbon-farming future

All levels of experience are welcome.

Schedule (10:00 - 4:00)

10:00 - Arrival, Networking & Tea/Coffee

A chance to meet fellow participants, connect with partners, and begin networking.

11:00 - Morning Presentations

Our project team will introduce:

  • The FORESTCARBOVISION project and its objectives

  • Forest carbon farming in Ireland and across the NPA region

  • Drone-based LiDAR measurement: what it is and how it works

  • Insights from pilot sites in Ireland, Iceland, and Finland

Finnish partners from the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) will join us to share expertise and European context.

12:00 - Interactive Workshops

Participants will work together to explore:

  • Barriers and opportunities in forest carbon farming

  • Roles of forest owners, communities, and organisations

  • Co-benefits for biodiversity, water, and local wellbeing

  • Priority actions for the Irish Forest Carbon Farming Roadmap

These workshops draw directly from stakeholder feedback gathered during the October and November meetings.

1:00 - Lunch (Provided- Vegetarian)

Please let us know any dietary requirements when booking your ticket.

2:00 - Drone Demonstration

Weather permitting, we will host a live demonstration of LiDAR drone-based forest carbon measurement, showcasing how high-resolution mapping supports accurate carbon accounting and monitoring.

3:00 - Tour of Myross Wood & CECAS (Optional)

Following the measuring demonstration, participants are invited to join an optional guided tour of Myross Wood, including the FORESTCARBOVISION demonstration site and special area of conservation.

This is an opportunity to see the woodland environment, understand the forest structure in context, and ask further questions about the drone work and upcoming pilot activities.
