Ilen River Guardians Group Meeting

Join us for the third meeting of the Ilen River Guardians Group, set up by Green Skibbereen as part of the Ilen River Catchment Project.

The Ilen River Guardians project is an initiative by Green Skibbereen, funded by LAWPRO. The project will:

• Bring key stakeholders invested in the wellbeing of the Ilen River catchment together, to achieve positive outcomes for the river through collaboration and the application of effective actions
• Support and develop local agency regarding stewardship of the Ilen River
• Advance knowledge of freshwater quality and biodiversity amongst communities in the Ilen catchment area
• Build upon the success of previous environmental initiatives in Skibbereen

At our first meeting, we introduced ourselves and learned about the different pressures affecting the Ilen River such as pollution and loss of biodiversity. At our second meeting we started a collaborative workshop process to define the goals and objectives of the new group and explored ideas for the future of the Ilen River catchment. 

This time, we will be further discussing and developing the aims and objectives of the group, what we would like to achieve and some ideas about how we can make positive change happen. We welcome new members to join the group and help develop a vision for the future of the river that benefits the local community and nature equally.
