Developing post-incident practice in residential child care

About the event
Members of the Scottish Physical Restraint Action Group (SPRAG), which is supported by CELCIS, have identified the importance of the moments that follow an incident when a child or young person is physically restrained. These are the moments that come both immediately after a restraint has taken place, and once there is time to pause and reflect on what has happened, the effects on the child or young person and on everyone else involved and witness to the incident.

SPRAG members have come together and shared information about what's working well and what is challenging around good post-incident practice in residential child care. This information includes how we respond to all kinds of incidents that involve restrictive practices, including seclusion.

We invite you to an online session hosted by SPRAG and The Promise, Scotland to further explore how we can develop post-incident practice across the residential child care sector together. On the day we will share the information collected so far, we'll reflect together on the purpose of post-incident processes, and you will have the opportunity to discuss the successes and challenges you are experiencing in your post-incident practice.

The event will include:

• A reflective discussion around what should and does happen after incidents – giving space for participants to consider the purpose of post-incident processes at a deeper level
• Sharing information gathered from SPRAG members at service-level
• Time to complete a questionnaire that asks questions about post-incident practice at an individual level

This event is for practitioners and managers working in residential child care, or anyone with an interest in restrictive practices within residential child care.
