HOW WINE WORKS. Wine 101 from a WINE-KNOW Cat.
Thu Oct 3, 2024 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
CELLAR CAT, 98346
Description
How does wine work? Standing in a big box store or presented with a wine menu at a restaurant, "how wine works" may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but to really KNOW wine at all, to be able to face a restaurant sommelier or a wine shop steward, knowing how wine works, from harvest to cellar to market, makes all the difference.
Wine is a simple beverage that over time has grown wildly complex.
The primary goal of Cellar Cat's introduction to HOW WINE WORKS is to help existing wine enthusiasts gain a working understanding of what the wine fan is looking at when they look at a bottle of wine or a wine list.
In CLASS ONE - this ticketed class - we will talk about how WHITE wine is made, why it shines so pretty (or doesn't), why it is more likely to give a headache than red wine, to most drinkers. We will quickly cover how white wine is made, the primary white wine grape varieties, language around white wine to help us better understand the wine chatter, and we will taste a few examples of traditional white wines.
The class will start with questions and end with the answers and is one hour long. Cellar Cat opens at 3:00. Arrive early for best seat selection.
For each class there is a small $25 fee which helps to cover the cost of the tasted wines and the glassware/labor. Tickets to all future classes of this kind will first be offered to those attending this class. Class TWO we will continue with HOW WINE WORKS by focusing on red wine. Class three we will, in honor of the holidays, do sparkling wine/champagne (bubbles).
In addition to getting first dibs on subsequent classes, those in attendance at these three Thursday classes will also have free admission (for the attendee only) to the evening's live ticketed jazz performance that beginas at 7 p.m., immediately after the class.
So you want to be a wine-know? Join me. Cheers, Holly
