Film Screening: Chavela (2017)
Join the Center for the Study of Women and Society in our screening of Chavela (2017), a documentary about the pioneering ranchera singer, Chavela Vargas. During the film, we will learn about the history of ranchera music through the experience of an androgynous Costa Rican lesbian breaking through the male-dominated genre. Directed by Catherine Gund and Daresha Kyi, Vargas's life of artistry and resilience is shared with us all. The screening will conclude with a Q&A with the directors.
