Meet the Publishing Industry

Whether you’re a writer interested in publication or someone aiming to work in the publishing industry, this event is a must. A collaboration between Creative Writing and the Centre for Book Cultures and Publishing, it’s a chance to hear from – and meet with – publishing professionals.
For our creative writers, there’s a further, brilliant opportunity – a rare chance to get written feedback on your fiction from a literary agent. See below for more details.
Please note: this event is only open to University of Reading students
Who you’ll meet

Kasim Ali is both a novelist (Good Intentions, Fourth Estate, 2022) and an editor (Penguin Random House, Amazon Publishing), so he’s seen the publishing process from every perspective. Candid and entertaining, he’ll be our guide on the journey ‘from laptop to bookshop’.

Elinor Davies is an associate agent at the Madeleine Milburn literary agency. She’s passionate about promoting underrepresented voices and loves to find great commercial and upmarket fiction. She’ll share her insights into what it takes to secure an agent – and become one.

Editor Simran Sandhu has worked at Macmillan Children’s Books and is now at Storymix, an award-winning children’s publisher which works to bring inclusive books to young readers. She’ll be joining Elinor in a panel discussion to share her editorial expertise.
To reserve your place at the event, please click on the Join the guestlist button. Please remember to reserve your place using your University of Reading email address.
Refreshments will be provided.
To submit your creative work to literary agent Elinor Davies: Elinor will give emailed feedback on fiction (short story/stories or the start of a novel) to ten student writers. To secure this opportunity, email Shelley Harris (shelley.harris@reading.ac.uk). Once Shelley confirms, she’ll send details of how to submit. You’ll have until April 8th
to do so.
