CfGS - Candidate Scrutiny taster event
Tue 23 Mar 2021 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM GMT
Online, Zoom
Description
Designed for election candidates with no prior experience of local government, this session will introduce and explore the role of “overview and scrutiny” in a council – likely the first opportunity new councillors will get to engage in the big decisions affecting the area.
CfGS will explain the basics of decision-making, the overall role and functions of scrutiny, and how new councillors can approach their scrutiny work with confidence.
The session will provide participants with an opportunity to ask questions about local authority governance and will signpost those keen to know more onto the significant amount of written, introductory material that CfGS and others have produced. Session length – 1hr approx.
