Description
Health white paper: meet the Bill team and discuss the future of health scrutiny
14th May, 10-11:30am
The Centre for Governance and Scrutiny is convening a workshop, mainly for health scrutiny chairs but also accessible to the officers who support them, to discuss the Government’s proposals for changes to the health and care system in England. Our comments on the White Paper can be found here. In brief, we are concerned about the potential for reduction in powers available to health scrutiny committees – in particular, the proposal to remove the power for councils to refer certain matters relating to the substantial variation in health services to the Secretary of State.
This session will provide a unique opportunity for you to hear from, and speak to, the team of civil servants currently drafting the Bill which will be introduced in May. It is the only opportunity that we have to ensure that the team hear directly from health scrutiny councillors before the Bill is published. The workshop will involve a plenary Q&A for civil servants as well as small group working to gather and collate more detailed comments.
If you wish to attend please sign up immediately as we anticipate spaces running out quickly.
