Rooting Disability Justice in Green Spaces [online training]
Sun 30 Mar 2025 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM BST
Online, Zoom
Description
Join The Community Food Growers' Network (CFGN) & Kristie Cabrera on Sunday 30th March, for an afternoon of learning about disability justice across the green spaces that we care for, work in or want to be in. This is being offered as part of CFGN's 2025 food and land justice programme 'We Are Soil'.
This training session will provide a foundation on what Disability Justice is and how it can be used to recognize and dismantle ableism in land and food based projects. There will be time for Q&A and participants will receive a resource document with further information on disability justice, accessibility, etc.
Kristie Cabrera (they/them) is a queer, non-binary, Latine, disabled and neurodivergent accessibility consultant with a background in occupational therapy. Kristie guides organizations on how to improve their internal practices around accessibility and inclusivity. Kristie is primarily passionate about working with nature and food based spaces. Having access to land and food can promote healing, wellness, and ancestral connection and it is important that everyone, including disabled and neurodivergent people, have equal opportunities to these benefits. Kristie’s work is centered around unpacking ableism and views of the body/mind, helping others to understand accessibility and inclusivity practices, and creating improvements to a site’s physical design, educational programs/curriculums, and work culture. You can follow Kristie’s work through their website KristieCabrera.com.

Safer Spaces
We are working together to ensure that this is a non-oppressive, respectful and accessible space. We have a Safer Spaces Policy adapted from the LWA’s 2021 AGM - feel free to add your comments, thoughts and ideas to this. We are also creating a safer spaces skillshare /tool kit where attendees and organisers can propose different strategies for bringing the policy and intentions to life. Please also read CFGN's manifesto for an understanding of the values and political visions that underpin this work.
