Feed the Movement: co-build + community feast

On Saturday 10th October, we will gather to celebrate the wonderful people who keep our movements fed across community kitchens, protests, meetings and picket lines. We are inviting community cooks to come, step away from the kitchen for a change and let us take care of making you a delicious meal. 

Join us for an evening honouring the crucial yet often invisible role community cooks play in sustaining and nourishing our movements through thick and thin. We welcome both current and former cooks to come and be fed!

We will need lots of hands to make this feast happen! Throughout the afternoon, we are running public workshops in carpentry and cooking. If you would like to be part of this, you can choose between: a co-building workshop to construct wooden tables OR hands-on experience in cooking up a Palestinian feast that we will all sit down to eat together.

Roles for the day:

• Building Hands: A group led by House of Annetta who will build a communal dining table for us to gather round 
  • If you would like to get stuck-in building tables, sign up below for a Building Hands ticket! Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Wear protective, closed-toe shoes.

• Kitchen Hands: A group led by Community Food Growers' Network will cook-up a beautiful, Palestinian feast

  • If you are a seasoned home cook or have kitchen experience and would like to take part in cooking, sign up below for a Kitchen Hands ticket! Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty and protective, closed-toe shoes. All cooking utensils, aprons, hairnets and gloves will be provided on the day.

  • If you are a community cook OR would like to attend the evening meal only (joining us at 6pm), reserve your spot at the table with a Meal Guest ticket

Please note:

• The two workshops will be happening at the same time so sadly it won't be possible to take part in both

• There will be plenty of opportunities for breaks and we invite all participants to go at their own pace, listen to their needs, and take any gentle time needed during the day

• Taking part in the workshops includes a spot at the dinner table! If you can't stay into the evening just let us know by emailing info@cfgn.org.uk, so we have an idea of numbers for the meal

• We'll take steps to minimise dust wherever possible. We'll also provide dust-masks and keep the doors open for ventilation.

• During the construction works you might expect to hear loud sounds (drilling, hammering) - we will provide ear plugs and covers for protection.

8 - 9pm: Collective tidying-up! 

Tables

We are looking for groups to donate the tables to after they are built at the event. If you know of any groups who may benefit from free custom made tables, please let us know! Preferably Tower Hamlets-based but not limited to

Accessibility
- The event will take place on the ground floor of Kingsley Hall where there is level access to all areas.

- There is one accessible toilet and 2 all-gender toilets; one with urinals, one without.

- Food will be vegan, gluten-free with vegetarian Halal options. The menu will be shared online before the event and all allergens will be listed with the food on the day.

- We will have welfare support available if any support or care is needed.

- There will be some child care during the meal time from 6-9pm with facilitated kids activities, please let us know if you are bringing children by booking a child ticket. Please note, children will not be permitted to join the workshops due to health and safety restrictions.

- The nearest public transport options are Bow Church DLR, Bromley by Bow underground station (circle line). Buses 25, 205, 425 and 323 all stop nearby and go to Mile End underground station (central line).
