Sasha and Alexey Grynyuk
Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Sasha Grynyuk studied at The National Music Academy of Ukraine, and later at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, in London, with Ronan O’Hora. After graduation he also benefited from artistic guidance from great musicians including Alfred Brendel and Murray Perahia.
A winner of over ten international competitions and awards, Sasha has received First Prizes at the Grieg International Piano Competition in Norway and the BNDES International Piano Competition in Brazil, as well as the Gold Medal—Guildhall School of Music’s most prestigious award. Dubbed a “Rising Star” by both BBC Music Magazine and International Piano Magazine, Sasha has performed worldwide in major venues including the Barbican Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Salle Cortot, Wiener Konzerthaus, Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall), and Teatro Real in Rio de Janeiro.Sasha's recording of music by Gould and Gulda for Piano Classics was selected as Record of the Month by Piano News and shortlisted by New York Classical Radio. Sasha’s artistic development has been shaped by guidance from Noretta Conci-Leech, former assistant to Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Sasha is a Trustee of the Keyboard Trust, established 30 years ago to support young pianists. He also serves as an Ambassador of the London Music Fund, established by the Mayor of London and Veronica Wadley, Baroness Fleet, to support talented children from London’s under-served communities.
Most recently, Sasha has been appointed Artistic Director of the Elgar International Music Festival in Alassio, Italy, established by the Commune of Alassio, with the inaugural programme scheduled for May 2026.
British-Ukrainian pianist Alexei Grynyuk performs throughout the world appearing in the most prestigious concert halls and music festivals. He has performed recitals at the Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland, Newport Music Festival in USA, Duszniki Chopin Festival in Poland, International Keyboard Festival in New York among many others. The venues include Wigmore Hall and the South Bank Centre in London, Salle Cortot and Salle Gaveau in Paris, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Alexei has displayed tremendous interest in music from early childhood and started performing at the age of six. At thirteen he attracted wide attention by winning First prize at the Dyagilev All-Soviet-Union piano competition. He went on to win many prizes, notably first prizes at the Horowitz International Piano Competition in Kyiv, Shanghai International Piano Competition in China.
Alexei’s musical development was shaped by his studies at the Kyiv Conservatoire under Natalia Gridneva and Valery Kozlov. He refined his studies with Hamish Milne at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Later he was awarded Associate of the Royal Academy of Music
(ARAM) and served as a jury member at the Benjamin Britten International Violin Competition London and the prestigious “Vendome Prize” International Piano Competition.
Being a passionate chamber musician, Alexei Grynyuk is part of a piano trio with his regular partners violinist Nicola Benedetti and cellist Leonard Elschenbroich. Described by The Telegraph as “A trio of True Stars” together they have toured the world extensively in the past decade performing at the Royal Albert Hall London, Birmingham Symphony Hall, LSO St. Luke’s, Frankfurt Alte Oper, 92Y New York, Gardner Museum Boston as well as festival appearances at BBC Proms, Ravinia, Istanbul, Cheltenham and Edinburgh International.
