Music at St Cuthbert's | Christmas Gala Concert
Celebrate Christmas at St Cuthbert’s with an evening of exceptional music-making in one of London’s most atmospheric church settings.
The Choir of St Cuthbert’s joins the internationally-renowned musicians of ChamberMusicBox under the direction of Alexander Pott for a programme that brings together some of the finest Christmas and winter music in the repertoire.
At its heart are excerpts from Bach’s magnificent Christmas Oratorio, alongside Corelli’s luminous Christmas Concerto, Vaughan Williams’ richly evocative Fantasia on Christmas Carols and Vivaldi’s electrifying Winter from The Four Seasons. From the brilliance and precision of the Baroque to the unmistakable warmth of the English choral tradition, the programme showcases both the virtuosity of the instrumentalists and the expressive power of the choir.
Music at St Cuthbert’s has become known for bringing musicians of the highest calibre into the extraordinary acoustic and architectural setting of St Cuthbert’s, Earl’s Court. This Christmas Gala brings that combination of artistic excellence, intimacy and atmosphere to one of the highlights of the season.
The concert will be followed by a festive drinks reception for reception-ticket holders, with a chance to meet the artists.
This year’s Gala is held in support of St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group and St Cuthbert’s Choral Scholarship Scheme. Through its specialist eye care, St John transforms lives across the Holy Land, while St Cuthbert’s Choral Scholarship Scheme invests in young singers and helps secure the future of the church’s distinguished musical tradition. Together, the two causes reflect the spirit of the evening: excellence in music, generosity of purpose and a strong sense of community.
