Women and Multiple Disadvantage Learning Collective
What Helps Women Get the Support They Need?
When: Wednesday 4th November, 1:30PM - 4:30PM
Arrival: From 1:20PM for Refreshments and Informal Networking
Where: Foundation Space, Triodos Bank, St George's Road, BS1 5BE
Background
Women experiencing multiple disadvantage may need support from several different services and organisations. Their experiences can include overlapping challenges relating to housing, mental health, substance use, poverty, violence and abuse, family separation, or contact with criminal justice services.
Bristol already has considerable knowledge, expertise, and activities focused around women. We’re looking to build on that learning and better understand what enables women to find, access, and remain connected to effective support.
Emerging Learning
Ahead of the event, we are gathering learning from women with lived experience, practitioners, researchers, and system partners around the question:
What helps women find their way through different services and get the support they need?
This Discovery phase will explore what helps women reach support; what makes support feel safe and trustworthy; what helps women stay connected; and what contributes to hope, choice, and a positive future.
The Learning Collective
Using an Appreciative Inquiry approach, the event will bring together learning from across Bristol and focus on existing strengths, effective practice and future possibilities, alongside what could be strengthened and what more might be possible.
Together, participants will:
- Hear learning gathered during the Discovery phase.
- Explore what is already helping women across Bristol.
- Share experience and examples of effective practice.
- Imagine what more could be possible.
- Help design practical opportunities to strengthen future support.
- Consider who needs to hear the learning so that more women can experience what works.
This is a participative event rather than a conference or presentation. You do not need to be a specialist in women’s multiple disadvantage.
We welcome practitioners, peers and lived experience contributors, researchers, commissioners, service leaders, and colleagues from across health, housing, social care, criminal justice, safeguarding, and the voluntary and community sector.
Please join us. Your experience, curiosity, and perspective can help shape what Bristol learns and what happens next.
Further information and pre-event materials will be shared with registered attendees before the event.
