14th Firbeck Crecy Shoot
14th Firbeck Crecy Shoot
Chantry Bowmen’s Firbeck Crecy shoot. A highly unusual round themed in the flavour of the first major English land victory of the Hundred Years War. When Edward III and his son, Edward the Black Prince, with an army of only 16,000 men, including 7,000 Welsh and English archers, defeated a much larger French force of perhaps 60,000 strong.
Just like the original battle in 1346, you will shoot at a life-size French army, including Men at Arms, Genoese Crossbowmen and eight-foot-tall Knights on horseback. If you're thinking at that size, they'll be easy to hit, think again, they're 160 yards away, and there are no scopes or sighters allowed!
You will start the day by shooting 3 dozen arrows at Mounted Knights from you're chosen spot on the shooting line (there are no designated shooting positions or details) after which we will retire for lunch. Please note that, unlike in previous years, a fish and chip lunch will not be provided, and is not included in your entry fee. Food and drinks are available from the Phoenix Pavilion, or bring a packed lunch. The afternoon Battle will continue with 3 dozen Arrows shot at Men at Arms at 145 yards, followed by 3 dozen arrows at Genoese Crossbowmen at 120 yards.
