Gambling-related harm can affect individuals, families, and communities, often occurring alongside wider health, wellbeing, and social issues. Affecting millions of people across the UK - including in Leicestershire and Rutland - gambling-related harm is now part of the national suicide prevention strategy and is curriculum-mandated in schools.

What is a Gambling Harms Champion?

A Gambling Harms Champion is someone who can help raise awareness, start meaningful conversations, and support others by sharing clear and consistent information about gambling-related harms. By becoming a Champion, you will be better equipped to recognise the signs of harm, have informed and supportive conversations, promote awareness within your organisation and networks, and contribute to early intervention and prevention.

Who Is This For?

This free session is open to anyone working across Leicestershire and Rutland but will be particularly relevant if your role involves supporting people, leading teams, or regularly interacting with groups of young people or adults.

The Gambling Harms Champion session goes beyond standard awareness to empower you to take action. The sessions will cover:

• What are Gambling Related Harms (GRH)
• National and local prevalence rates
• The causes and effects of GRH, including the commercial determinants affecting harm
• Signs and symptoms of GRH
• Providing support to those affected, treatment pathways, and local signposting
• How to become a Champion: Developing the skills and confidence to train others and deliver clear, consistent awareness messaging within your own organisation.

The sessions are 3 hours long and delivered online via MS Teams. All training delivered by Chapter One is evidence-based, align with NICE Guidelines, and free of any industry influence.

Ongoing Support and Resources

To ensure you feel supported beyond the session, all participants will receive:

• Access to our Gambling Harms Champions Network, including follow-up sessions and peer support to continue developing your skills.
• Follow-up resources to reinforce and support your learning.
• Ready-to-use training materials to help you deliver your own awareness sessions.

Content Notice: Please be aware that this training will reference various forms of gambling and features images and audio of gambling-related activity. It will also discuss severe levels of harm up to and including suicide. Robust safeguarding procedures are in place to ensure delegate safety remains paramount throughout the session.
