Description
Make Connections | New Ideas | Real Examples | Practical Advice
Everyone is welcome at the Charity Meetup London Group, friendly facilitated networking and skills sharing event.
Meet like minded people and connect as well as learning new practical skills and tactics to help further your professional development.
When: Fri 12 Apr 2024 - 9.30 am (arrivals 10 am start) until 12.30pm.
Theme: The Market for Something to Believe in is Infinite.
Inspired by Hugh MacLeod - Gaping Void "We are here to find meaning. We are here to help other people do the same. Everything else is secondary. We humans want to believe in our own species. And we want people, companies and products in our lives that make it easier to do so. That is human nature."
The notion is that charities present something to believe in, we can offer hope, purpose, belonging and belief which are rare commodities in the modern world, at this event we will explore how we can shape our messages to become more powerful and magnetic. We will look at approaches to rapidly optimise our campaigns and reach our goals quicker.
"We humans want to believe in our own species. And we want people, companies, and products in our lives that make it easier for us to believe in one another." ~ Hugh MacLeod, from “The Hughtrain Manifesto.
Agenda:
1: Lightning Talk and Activity: Kindness as a Movement for Change
Sarah Browning will share about Time for Kindness and invite you to ‘see kind’. Encouraging a shift from focusing on issues to a positive outcome. She will then challenge the group to share stories and examples with each other to put a smile on our faces and fill the room with positive energy.
2: Hope Springs Eternal
Rachel Collinson will share how your cause can move to the Values-Driven Fundraising System to become a donor magnet. Causes using this system have doubled their income from individual giving within one year.
Rachel will share how to uncover the hidden, unspoken motivations behind your donors’ giving and how you can prove these using science. We'll look at how you can use this research to create campaigns that will draw in new ideal supporters who are primed to become loyal donors.
3: This Girl Can Movement - Sharing the Learning
Kate Dale will share how Sports England began the legendary This Girl Can movement and where it is now. All of the learnings along the way, with a particular focus on the steep learning curve to understand behaviour change and what works and what doesn't. It's an opportunity to learn about how an organisation shifted its approach with this project to be more audience-led, inspirational and disruptive/bold. The results from the movement speak for themselves.
Speakers:
Rachel Collinson - Donor Whisperer
She has been a digital consultant since 2013, helping charities to develop and deepen relationships with current and future donors. She has worked with 300+ non-profit and social enterprise clients. These include World Animal Protection, Four Paws, Which?, Alzheimer’s Society, the Tibet Network, Asthma UK, DEBRA Ireland, Amnesty International, the United Nations Association, the Leukaemia Foundation Australia and Mind. Rachel is the author of 'The Giving Code', a book on values-driven fundraising and how charities can use it to thrive during the current economic storm.
Sarah Browning - Time for Kindness
Sarah believes in the power of kindness and communication to connect us as human beings. Sarah inspires others to believe in it too. I founded the Time for Kindness programme to encourage people to ‘see kind’ and teach them to make noticing it a habit, individually and collectively. Programme activities, talks and workshops inspire hope, positive wellbeing and resilience. My communication consultancy work also stimulates collaboration and connection.

Who will you meet at the Charity Meetup?
A diverse network of connections is essential for people and organisations in the non-profit sector. The purpose of the Charity Meetup is to help foster and grow these connections.
The Charity Meetup is a friendly event full of skills sharing, networking and fun, and all are welcome. The event was created by Dawn Newton, after noticing that there were lots of events but nothing which supported participants to network practically through facilitated activities.
Join the discussion about how we can build a thriving future for the charity sector and the practical steps we can take now to work towards it.
