Theme: Cultivating Leadership & Resilient Teams
The Heart of the Mission is the People Behind It.
In the charity sector, we are often so focused on the communities we serve that we forget to tend to the "soil" of our own organisations. True resilience isn’t just about "toughing it out"; it’s about leadership that nurtures, supports, and builds a foundation where teams can flourish, even under pressure.
Join us for an online meetup dedicated to the human side of impact. We’ll move beyond the buzzwords to discuss how leaders can foster genuine connection, prevent burnout, and cultivate teams that are as adaptable as they are compassionate.
What to Expect:
- Insightful Talks: Peer-led sessions on the psychology of resilient teams.
- Interactive Breakouts: Small-group discussions to share leadership wins and hurdles.
- Actionable Takeaways: Practical strategies to bring back to your organisation immediately.
This isn't just a networking event; it's a critical opportunity for UK charity leaders to connect, collaborate, and spark new thinking to address the biggest challenges facing the non-profit sector.

Talk: From Values to Practice: Wellbeing, Belonging, Thriving
Leela will share with us how her team fosters psychological safety in practical and meaningful ways, which reflects their supportive organisational culture. They embed a simple process in their team meetings that makes space for sharing and allows vulnerability and honesty. This helps the team understand and support one another, and allows them to bring their whole selves to work with the trust and flexibility that enables them to be effective in their roles, and as a team and charity partner.
Leela and her UK teammates all work remotely and virtually with colleagues at their Kenyan-led partner NGO. Meetings are online and their approach helps bridge the gap created by increased remote working.
We will then take some time to practice this approach and reflect on it, on what blocks us from opening up, and consider how we can shift to more open communication and make time for it.
Fostering Psychological Safety in Charity Teams can help in many ways:
Prevents Burnout: Allows mission-driven staff to safely voice emotional exhaustion and ask for support, reducing high turnover.
Sparks Low-Cost Innovation: Encourages teams to propose creative, unconventional ideas to solve complex problems with limited resources.
Protects Trust & Integrity: Ensures mistakes or ethical concerns are flagged early before they jeopardise funding or public reputation.
Speaker: Leela Shanti- Head of Fundraising & Impact at Raising Futures Kenya
Leela is Head of Fundraising & Impact at Raising Futures Kenya, where she leads UK fundraising and works closely with Kenyan colleagues to strengthen impact, learning, and reporting for the Seed of Hope programme, supporting young people through vocational and business training, and wellbeing support. https://www.linkedin.com/in/leela-shanti-6a10a070/

Whether you are an Executive Director, a Team Lead, or an aspiring changemaker, this space is for you to recharge and refocus.
Who will you meet at the Charity Meetup?
A diverse network of connections is essential for people and organisations in the non-profit sector. The purpose of the Charity Meetup is to help foster and grow these connections.
The Charity Meetup is a friendly event full of skill-sharing, networking, and fun, and all are welcome. The event was created by Dawn Newton after noticing that there were lots of events, but nothing that supported participants in networking practically through facilitated activities.
Join the discussion about how we can build a thriving future for the charity sector and the practical steps we can take now to work towards it.
