Beyond the Bottom Line! - panel discussion at Pensions UK Annual Conference

On Tuesday 13 October 2026, Moore Squared Communications and Untamed Consulting will be co-hosting a panel discussion at the Pensions UK Annual Conference in Liverpool.

We’ll be discussing: Beyond the Bottom Line at The One O’clock Gun, a five-minute walk from the conference centre in Liverpool.

The pensions industry used to be judged largely on two things: investment performance and cost.

Now, the brief is wider.

The bottom line still matters. But it’s not the only line that counts.

Today, we’re being asked to balance better retirement outcomes, value for money, member engagement, sustainability, inclusion, economic growth and decumulation support, all while facing fee pressure, consolidation, regulation, political scrutiny and growing operational complexity.

So we’re asking:

Has the pensions industry quietly been handed a much bigger brief?

And if it has, who decides what matters most?

We’ll be sharing some new research that will tell us all more about what asset owners are seeing, prioritising and where the pressure is being felt.

Charlotte Moore, co-founder of Moore Squared Communications, will chair the panel discussion exploring the tensions shaping the future of the sector, from scale and competition to innovation, regulation, adequacy, affordability, governance and commercial reality.

Joining Charlotte Moore will be Darren Philp, co-founder and director of Untamed Consulting, Daniela Silcock, Daniela Silcock Pensions Research, pensions consultant, who will lead the research and present the findings. 

Jerry Butcher, Workplace Savings Director, Scottish Widows, the Workplace Savings Director at Scottish Widows within Lloyds Banking Group  will also be on the panel. 

Expect proper debate, awkward questions and strong opinions. We want to hear yours on the night.

As always with these events, the debate will operate under Chatham House Rule, giving people room to be candid about what is really changing, what is getting harder, and what the industry may be expected to deliver next.

The panel 

Jerry is the Workplace Savings Director at Scottish Widows within Lloyds Banking Group, leading a business that supports over 4.8 million customers to save for retirement through their employer-sponsored pension schemes. Jerry brings extensive expertise across Insurance, Pensions, and Investments. His previous roles include Longstanding Director, where he prepared Scottish Widows’ legacy product portfolio for Consumer Duty, Strategy Director, and Head of M&A.

Daniela is a consultant, researcher and pensions policy expert with over 20 years of experience across government, parliament, charities, and research institutes. She is recognised for her ability to translate complex issues into clear, actionable insights. She provides tailored research, policy analysis, regulatory briefings, and training to help organisations navigate the pensions landscape and shape effective strategies. Daniela is also a regular media contributor, on national tv and radio. Her work is grounded in a commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring a range of perspectives are reflected and bias is actively addressed. She has a degree in social work and a masters (merit) in Social Policy and planning from the London School of Economics. 

Darren served as a civil servant for more than thirteen years at Treasury. He has also worked at the NAPF (as was), People’s Pension and Smart Pension in policy and public affairs roles, before branching out to co-found Untamed Consulting with Karen Quinn. He also co-hosts V-FM podcast with Nico Aspinall for the pensions industry and has done so for the last three years.

After working in the city as an investment analyst, Charlotte applied her entrepreneurial flair, her passion for fundamental analysis and her endless curiosity to large professional investors. She became an award-winning journalist, specialising in how and why large UK institutions invest the way they do. She co-founded Moore Squared Communications with her sister, Natasha Moore in 2025 – creating a female led family business in the pensions industry. She remains a working journalist and hosts The Professional Investment Podcast.

What to expect and timings

The research findings and panel discussion will begin at 5:15pm.

There’ll be time for questions from the floor, followed by time to enjoy another drink or two and network before people head out for dinner at 7.00pm.
