Just a few hours south of Scotland without crossing any sea is one of the world’s most exciting wine regions!

Whilst English wines were once seen as ‘experimental’, innovation, investment and (in particular) a warming climate have seen fantastic quality improvements over the last fifty years. English Quality Sparkling Wines (made by the traditional method as with champagne) are winning awards for some of the best sparking wines in the world. English still wines are also doing superbly – mainly whites but also some superb reds. For the most part these are fresh, delicate wines – perfect for spring!

This event take place just a day after St George’s Day in a week often marked as 'English Wine Week'. We will taste 8 different wines showing the amazing quality that England now offers.

Gareth Morgan has particular experience of English wine production as a former member of the UK Vineyards Association (now Wine GB) and wine adviser to Ryedale Vineyards in Yorkshire for almost 10 years - he was involved a wide range of roles in the vineyard and assisted especially with final blending in the wine production. But he also also visited many English vineyards further south and attended a wide range of conferences and training events concerned with English wine.

As usual we will be seated round a table at Gareth's home with a maximum of 10 people (9 guests plus Gareth) so there will be plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.

The evening will end with a light supper of bread and specially selected cheeses - with a special focus on English cheeses for this event - and there will be chance to retaste the wines with the food.

There is no fixed charge for this event, but the event is arranged in support of the Scottish Refugee Council and given that English wines (especially the sparklers) command a premium price we suggest a donation of around £30/person if that is possible (but you are free to give more or less according to your circumstances). You can now book multiple places if you wish.  You can also choose to add one donation for all the places your are booking (no need to make a separate payment for each) - and you can even Gift Aid your donation if you are a taxpayer.
