Young Designers Sustainable Fashion Challenge

Chelmsford Cathedral and Farleigh Hospice launch a brand new fashion challenge for young designers, culminating in a catwalk show on our Threads through Creation’s closing night 7th October 2026.

Designers aged 16-24: your challenge is to create a complete outfit entirely from charity shop finds, transforming second hand garments around the theme “Renewal & Restoration.   An outfit symbolising renewal — mending, rebirth, transformation — echoing both sustainability and the creation narrative.

Challenge Brief

Unleash your imagination, craftsmanship, and commitment to sustainable fashion.

Students are invited to design and create a complete outfit using only items sourced from a charity shop. They must transform two second-hand / pre-loved garments into a cohesive, stylish look suitable for a specific occasion.  

Showcase

Finalists will have their outfits displayed or modelled during the Threads Fashion Show on Wednesday 7 October, the last night of the Threads through Creation Exhibition.   Those attending the fashion Show will be able to vote for their favourite designer.  Winners will be announced at the evening.

To celebrate the final night of the amazing Threads through Creation Exhibition we are holding our Threads Fashion Show in partnership with Farleigh Hospice.

Book your ticket to not only see the finalists from our Young Designers Sustainable Fashion Challenge show off their designs on the catwalk, but also enjoy a night of fashion from Farleigh Hospice.

On the night the Farleigh team will be raising vital funds for their charity.  They will be on the catwalk showing off their range of vintage clothing, as well as having a pop-up shop selling preloved clothing and accessories. 

The finalists from our Young Designers fashion Challenge will be showing off their designs and you will get the chance to vote for your favourite outfit on the night. 

Tickets Prices

Adults       £15.00  -  includes a drink on arrival (prosecco or soft drink)

Students  £7.50   -  includes a drink on arrival (prosecco/soft drink.  Soft drink only for U18's)

Child 10 - 16yrs  £5.00 -  includes a soft drink on arrival soft drink

A percentage of the fundraised income from the Fashion Show will go directly to Farleigh Hospice

£1.00 Booking fee added on booking to adult / Student tickets 

The fundraised income generated from supporting our events helps raise funds to maintain this beautiful building, continue our charitable work and keep our doors open for all. Thank you for your support.
