Creative Workshop Programme
As part of our Creative Season, we are delighted to launch our Creative Workshop Programme.
Bringing together a wonderful selection of creative workshops, the programme offers the perfect opportunity to try something new, discover a hidden talent or develop your existing creative skills.
Led by talented local creatives and skilled practitioners, each workshop offers a chance to learn, create and enjoy some time to explore your creativity in the inspiring surroundings of Chelmsford Cathedral.
Whether you are looking to learn a new craft, develop your skills or simply enjoy a creative experience, we hope there is something in the programme to inspire you.

Workshop Venue
Workshops will take place either within Chelmsford Cathedral or in St Cedd’s Hall, located within the Chapter House Building.

Watercolour Painting the Cathedral Workshop with Jessica Sian

About the Workshop
Join local artist Jessica Sian for a relaxing evening of watercolours in Chelmsford Cathedral.
In this 2.5 hour workshop you will be provided with your own hand drawn pencil sketch of the cathedral to use as a starting point.
From here you will be guided through the process of creating your own unique pen and watercolour illustration by Jessica.
You have a choice of views of the Cathedral, please select the one you would like to draw when booking your ticket.
Whether you're coming with friends, a partner, or on your own, this session with watercolours is fun and relaxing way to spend a Tuesday evening.
Available views:
Option 1 - an iconic view of Chelmsford Cathedral
Option 2 – a close up of the Cathedral’s south porch and bell tower
Option 3 - inside the Cathedral, a chance to focus on the decorative interior rather than external architecture.
Whilst all three options have been chosen as suitable views for the time, we recommend that option one is the easiest view for anyone new to or less confident with pen & watercolour, whilst also still offering plenty of opportunity for more experiences participants to add as much detailing as they wish due to the varying textures.

· You will leave with an A5 finished pen and watercolour painting of Chelmsford Cathedral.
· Guidance from Jessica, an award-winning local artist.
About the Tutor
Jessica Sian is a Chelmsford based award winning illustration artist who's work focuses on the places that mean the most to people.
Her business began with her drawing homes and wedding venues for friends and family. Not long after, her dad asked her to draw Portman Road, home to his football club Ipswich Town.
Her intricate pen and watercolour drawings start in pencil and fineliner pen to ensure every detail is captured, before being painted in watercolours.
She now creates and sells prints of cityscapes, sports stadiums and other memorable places, having a regular stall at London's Broadway Market as well as at some local events and in shops across Essex and London.

About the Workshop
Discover the fun of brush pen lettering in a colourful, creative workshop designed especially for children 8+ and their grown ups!
Learn how to use a brush pen, practise simple strokes and lettering techniques, and experiment with different styles as you create your own colourful word and designs.
From funky lettering to personalised cards and artwork, children and adults will have lots of opportunities to get creative and make something they’re proud of.
No experience needed - just bring your creativity and get ready to have fun!

A fun and creative autumn workshop, perfect for children who enjoy making, designing and creating something special.
About the Tutor
Amy is a primary school teacher from Chelmsford who, when she’s not teaching, explores her creativity through calligraphy, hand lettering, watercolour and illustration. Her work spans wedding stationery, window painting, live calligraphy and bespoke commissions for all occasions.
Passionate about sharing her love of arts and crafts, Amy believes there is creativity in everyone. While calligraphy can seem intimidating at first, with the right guidance, tips and techniques, it is an accessible and rewarding skill for anyone to learn. The slow, mindful nature of calligraphy makes it a wonderfully relaxing creative practice and with a little patience and practice, you can create something truly beautiful.
Amy also runs successful school holiday arts workshops for primary-aged children, giving young artists the opportunity to build confidence, get creative and make new friends. Her workshops combine high-quality materials, proper art techniques and expert teaching in a fun, encouraging environment.

About the Workshop
Join local artist Tracey Walker for a fun and festive 2-hour glass painting workshop inside the beautiful Chelmsford Cathedral, suitable for all abilities and with no previous experience needed.
Stained glass has a rich history, bringing colour, storytelling and light into churches and cathedrals for centuries. Inspired by the Cathedral’s own beautiful stained glass windows, we’ll be creating our own framed A4 glass painting using specialist glass paints.
Choose from a selection of Christmas-inspired designs, or design your own festive piece of art. All materials and tuition are provided, and you’ll take home your own unique framed painting, perfect to enjoy or give as a special Christmas gift.

About the Tutor
Following a formal education in fine art I became a commercial artist for over 30 years.
Whilst drawing on my training and experience, I find joy and fulfilment in creating my own work.
I am passionate about exploring colour, beauty and texture in my paintings and enjoy the liberation and spiritual freedom which the abstract process allows.
I have provided artworks to hotels and restaurants, corporate clients and many individuals.
The fundraised income generated from supporting our events helps raise funds to maintain this beautiful building, continue our charitable work and keep our doors open for all. Thank you for your support.
