Creative Workshop Programme

As part of our Creative Season, we are delighted to launch our Creative Workshop Programme.

Bringing together a wonderful selection of creative workshops, the programme offers the perfect opportunity to try something new, discover a hidden talent or develop your existing creative skills.

Led by talented local creatives and skilled practitioners, each workshop offers a chance to learn, create and enjoy some time to explore your creativity in the inspiring surroundings of Chelmsford Cathedral.

Whether you are looking to learn a new craft, develop your skills or simply enjoy a creative experience, we hope there is something in the programme to inspire you.

Workshop Venue

Workshops will take place either within Chelmsford Cathedral or in St Cedd’s Hall, located within the Chapter House Building.

About the Workshop

Discover the art of origami and learn how to transform a single sheet of paper into a beautiful wallet with a wraparound cover.

During this hands-on workshop, you will learn and practise the folding sequence, experiment with different papers and develop your muscle memory so you can confidently recreate your wallet at home.

No previous origami experience is required — this workshop is suitable for beginners.

About the Workshop

Continue your origami journey in this fun and creative afternoon workshop.

Learn how to fold and create your own origami-inspired card holder, exploring different folding techniques and papers along the way.

With guidance throughout the session, you’ll develop your confidence with origami and create a practical handmade piece to take home.

No previous origami experience is required — this workshop is suitable for beginners.

About the Tutor

Pansy's background is in calligraphy and bookbinding but more recently has also developed a very keen interest in origami which she seamlessly blends with her bookbinding acumen.

Pansy, who has many years’ experience of teaching adults, is excited to share her origami skills with workshop participants.

During Advent 2025, Pansy was a member of a trio of collaborative creators who produced the '12 Advent Stations', exhibited at Chelmsford Cathedral.

Pansy holds a Diploma in Calligraphy, (Roehampton Institute)

Certificate in Education (Adult & Community) (Institute of Education) and BA (Hon) Modern Language Studies (Open University)

About the Workshop

Give old books a new lease of life in this lovely, creative workshop with Becky Wash.

Learn how to transform old book pages into one or two beautiful paper roses, each measuring approximately 20–30cm.

Your handmade roses will make a wonderful decorative feature displayed in a vase, draped across a book or shelf, or they can be given as a unique and thoughtful gift to friends and family.

No previous crafting experience is required — just bring your creativity and enjoy an opportunity to make something beautiful from something old.

Becky Wash is an author, bookbinder and expert in giving old books a new lease of life. She transforms forgotten favourites into unique notebooks and creative makes.

Becky also runs fun and friendly craft workshops, gives talks to groups and hosts private craft parties for adults.

Come along and discover how something as simple as an old book can be transformed into something beautiful.

Join local designer Debbie from Make Space for a fun and creative evening making your own beautiful stretch charm bracelets.

Choose from Debbie’s ‘Bead Bar’ and create your own unique designs using a gorgeous selection of semi-precious beads, pearls, crystals and charms.

During the workshop, you’ll learn how to design and construct your bracelets, as well as how to successfully knot them for a beautiful and secure finish.

You’ll leave with two unique handmade bracelets to wear, enjoy or give as a special gift.

Perfect for beginners — no previous jewellery-making experience is required.

Make Space is a beautiful mindful curation of craft parties, workshops, craft kits and commissioned pieces based around Debbie’s joy for colour and design. You’ll find Debbie in her happy place surrounded by semi precious beads, hand dyed yarns and neon paints creating the most beautiful bespoke creations from beaded bracelets to woven wall hangings.

Crafting is for everyone, we all stand to benefit from it so Debbie chooses simple accessible techniques for all to try. Debbie’s ‘Bead Bar’ is perhaps her most coveted of classes as it features a truly inspiring assortment of colourful beads collected over the past 20 years from far flung corners of the globe on Debbie’s previous travels. Creating affirmation bracelets using beads from the ‘Bead Bar’ is a beautiful mindful act of self care and has seen dozens of local crafters have a go at making bespoke jewellery with Make Space.

Choose from Debbie’s ‘Bead Bar’ and have fun designing your own bracelets using an assortment of colourful beads, pearls, crystals and charms.

During the workshop, children will learn how to design and construct their bracelets and how to create a secure knot to finish them.

Each participant will make two unique charm bracelets to take home and enjoy.

No previous experience is needed — just bring your creativity!
