Swifts and house martins are some of our most familiar summer birds, returning to Charlton Kings each year after remarkable journeys to and from Africa. But their numbers are declining, largely due to the loss of nesting spaces in our towns and villages.

This introductory community event will explore what’s happening to swifts and house martins, why Charlton Kings is important for them, and what practical steps we can take locally to help. The evening will include a short talk by local expert Tom Mabbett, followed by time for discussion, questions, and an introduction to the newly formed Charlton Kings Swift & House Martin Support Group.

We’ll also share simple, practical ways people can get involved - from learning more about these birds to supporting the installation of nest boxes on homes across the parish.

No prior knowledge is needed. This is a friendly, informal event for anyone curious about local wildlife and keen to be part of a positive community response.
