America's violinist and Grammy nominee Jenny Oaks Baker & Family Four will be taking our mountain stage to perform "American Mosaic" with music by Emmy-winning composer Kurt Bestor.
Coupled with spirited dancing from BYU folk dancers and ballroom dancers, this show promises to inspire a greater appreciation for the vibrant mosaic that is America.
JENNY OAKS BAKER
Grammy Nominated, Billboard #1 performer and recording artist Jenny Oaks Baker is one of America’s most beloved and accomplished violinists. Whether her music is experienced live or through one of her many recordings, it is impossible to escape the magic of her artistry.
She received her Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School and her Bachelor’s degree from The Curtis Institute of Music. Jenny has performed as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Library of Congress, and as a guest soloist with the The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, and the Jerusalem, Pittsburgh, Utah, and National Symphonies.
Jenny has released nineteen albums, including her latest, The Redeemer, which have sold over a million copies and consistently chart on Billboard. Music from her Grammy nominated album, Wish Upon a Star is featured at Disney World and Disneyland to introduce the nightly fireworks show.
Jenny began playing the violin at age four, and made her solo orchestral debut in 1983 when she was only eight years old. She received her Master of Music Degree from the renowned Juilliard School in New York City and her Bachelor’s Degree in violin performance from The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
Jenny's emotionally stirring music has been featured on the soundtracks of many films, including Helen Whitney's PBS Documentary, "The Mormons", TC Christensen's hit films, "17 Miracles", "The Cokeville Miracle", & "Love Kennedy", and alongside music by "The Killers" in Mitch Davis' film, "Christmas Eve". Additionally, Jenny starred as the violinist character, Mandy in "Christmas Eve", a film starring James Roday, Jon Heder and Patrick Stewart. Jenny was also featured performing the Barber Violin Concerto in the award-winning documentary “Samuel Barber: Absolute Beauty”. And music from her Grammy Nominated Album, “Wish Upon a Star” is featured at Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Disneyland to introduce their nightly fireworks shows.
FAMILY FOUR
Jenny's four musically talented children (Family Four) have performed with orchestras throughout the United States including the Utah Symphony, the Millennial Choirs and Orchestras and the Tabernacle Choir & Orchestra at Temple Square. They have performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Family Four are also featured on many popular music videos and productions. Their debut album, Jenny Oaks Baker & Family Four hit No. 4 on the Classical and Classical Crossover Billboard Charts. Their Christmas album, Joy to the World debuted at #7 on the Billboard Charts.
Laura is 22 and plays the violin and percussion, having recently graduated from Brigham Young University.
Hannah is 21 and studies piano at The Royal Academy of Music in London.
Sarah is 19 and studies the cello at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Matthew is 17 and plays the classical and electric guitar.
Jenny and her children have been performing together as a family since each child started playing their instruments when they were three or four years old. Their father, Matt Baker is a business executive and is incredibly supportive of his wife and children.
THE COMPOSER
Perhaps best known for his innovative interpretation of seasonal carols found in his popular 5 CD boxed set “The Complete Kurt Bestor Christmas,” and his haunting musical prayer for peace “Prayer of the Children,” the Utah based composer and performer launched his career writing music for television and movies. His credits include more than 40 film scores and more than 40 themes for national TV programs and commercials.
It is Bestor’s music that has introduced NFL Monday Night Football, and National Geographic Explorer; he scored TBS’s Wild! Life Adventures and the IMAX film “The Great American West.”
He also was given the Outstanding Film Score Award at the New York Film and Television Festival for his music for PBS’s “A More Perfect Union.” Bestor was awarded an Emmy® for his collaboration with Sam Cardon on the original music for ABC’s coverage of the 1988 Winter Olympics. In 2012, his arranging and producing of Jenny Oaks Baker’s CD “Wish Upon a Star” earned the two of them a Grammy nomination.
