Every last Wednesday of the month the ECU Education Commission holds a Discussion Group meeting for chess educators to share experiences and discuss their ideas and knowledge on various topics related to Chess in Education.
Discussion Group Meetings allow participants to learn from each other and gain new insights through different perspectives.
This month:
"Someday I'll Be a Queen"
Introducing chess to preschoolers while also involving teachers, parents and grandparents in the adventure.
Speaker:
Christel Minne (Belgium)
Christel Minne is a kindergarten teacher from Belgium who started an exciting chess project in elementary schools over 15 years ago. For the past seven years, she has been pioneering chess education for preschoolers and developed a unique and engaging approach tailored to young learners.
In her quest for the "perfect" teaching material, Christel crafted her own captivating story and method. Partnering with Daniël Vanheirzeele (Thinkers Publishing) and illustrator Dirk Dewitte, she brought her vision to life in the beautifully illustrated picture book "Someday I’ll be a Queen", accompanied by a dynamic toolbox filled with tips, games, and interactive learning techniques.
Through her presentation, you’ll get a glimpse into Christel’s work, a dynamic and playful way to introduce chess to preschoolers. She will also highlight the unique aspects of the book, explaining how it stands apart from other chess books for children.
Join us to discover the story behind this exciting project, the goals it aims to achieve and the impact it can have on early childhood (chess) education!
