Discover how technology affects the perception and appreciation of an artwork, through listening to digital craftperson Damien Borowik describe his creative process of working with his drawing machines. Damien develops his own analogue and digital tools to create artworks where technological processes are inherent to the artwork’s aesthetics. After his presentation the audience will get to ask him questions which will allow them to gain a deeper understanding of his work.

About the Artist

Damien Borowik has travelled East Asia extensively. During his travel, the artist has gathered various photographs of everyday life, and of the spirit enmeshed in Asian and Buddhist culture. In his machine drawings, the artist is able to depict serenity by letting the audience appreciate the subject while reconstructing the artwork for themselves in an act of perception.

Damien holds a BA in Graphic Design from Central Saint Martins, where he has been working for 15 years. He recently obtained an MA in Computational Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London. Over the past three years, he has been commissioned by Christian Dior Couture (Paris), in residence at Samsung Electronics (Seoul), and has been exhibited at the Southbank Centre, BBC Worldwide, and at the major exhibition Creative Machine at Goldsmiths. His artworks can also be seen in the Victoria & Albert Museum permanent collection, with a selection currently on show until 19th November in the exhibition Chance and Control: Art in the Age of Computers.
