Sarah Helm is an award-winning journalist and writer. She will share her 60 minutes with a China Exchange audience.
She was The Independent's Diplomatic Editor from 1989, covering significant moments including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gulf War and developments in the Middle East. From 1995, she was the Brussels correspondent.
Her first book was A Life in Secrets: Vera Atkins and the Missing Agents of WWII, published in 2005. It traces the lives of missing female members of the British Special Operations Executive (SOE), and of the woman who searched for them. Sarah's play, Loyalty (2011), is a semi-fictional account of the personal lives of the UK's leaders in the build up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Her latest book, If this is a Woman: Inside Ravensbrück: Hitler's Concentration Camp for Women, released in 2014, provides accounts of the lives and deaths of thousands of women prisoners.
