FAQs
1. Is this restricted only to members of Chinmaya Mission?
No. This is open to all children aged 5 to 17 years
2. How will children learn the verses?
The Chinmaya Mission Gita Chanting Competition is a voluntary, self-paced learning program. Children attending Balavihar will learn chanting as part of the class. If your child is not able to attend Balavihar classes, please make use of the audio and text links that will be provided on registration.
3. What are the benefits of chanting?
Our beloved Pujya Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda, conducted over 500 Geeta Gnana Yagnas. By participating, children gain the precious opportunity to carry forward His work as well as creating a positive vibration within themselves and the environment around. Chanting offers several benefits. A few are listed below:
a. Develops pure saṁskaras (impressions) and helps purify the mind
b. Chanting vibrations produce a positive impact on the individual and the family
c. Could inspire children to explore the meaning of the teachings in our scriptures
d. Provides exposure to the Sanskrit language and promotes a sense of cultural identity
e. Enables us to develop our memorization skills and develop and use our memory bank
f. Equips us with tools that may be used in meditation e.g. ability to sit erect with minimal physical movements, the ability to collect our thoughts and focus our mind
4. Can children outside the age groups (or adults) participate?
The competition is open to children between the specified age groups. Others are welcome to use this opportunity and resources to learn even if they are not part of the competition. Chanting as a family encourages children even more than doing it alone.
