In this conference call, we will explore how pets enhance quality of life for older people. Drawing on the lived experience of older people who rely on pets as companions, and reviewing research evidence which evaluates how connection with animals enhances physical health and psychological wellbeing, we will examine how communities can support older people to keep their own pets and/or have contact with animals. We will also look at ways in which care homes and hospitals can be encouraged to support residents and patients through contact and engagement with animals.
