When science and religion operate best, they reveal key truths about the world we inhabit and help us navigate that world. But those are not the only things they do. Science produces power over our physical surroundings (among other things) and religion binds us together in communities of belief and practice (among other things). Science-religion engagement, then, is not simply a question of epistemology – how we know things. It is a question of how we relate to one another, to God, and to the world.
Building on his experience connecting Christian leaders with leading scientists across denominations and around the world (see eclasproject.org and ordsci.org), Lucas will speak about how we can bring the best of both kinds of authority together in mission and ministry.
He explores many of these exciting ideas in his fantastic book 'Thinking Fair - Rules for Reason in Science and Religion'.
