BOWIE - The Seat With The Clearest View - SONGS. VOICES. PIANO.
The Songs of David Bowie, Re-Imagined by Oliver Darley & Chad Lelong
Circle & Star Presents — in association with Hampstead Jazz Club.
Oliver Darley sings Bowie.
A conversation, then a concert. The man who stood beside him, followed by the songs re-imagined.
Following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe, Darley and pianist Chad Lelong have released their critically acclaimed debut album — The Seat With The Clearest View - Bowie's songs as you've never heard them.
The Evening
The evening opens with Jonathan Wingate — Bowie's former Spokesman and Executive Producer of the album — in conversation. Twenty-five minutes inside the room where the work happened, with the man who stood next to it.
Then the music. A short break, and Oliver Darley and Chad Lelong take the stage for a single set — sixty minutes of Bowie, radically re-arranged and stripped to their bones. Life On Mars? through to Where Are We Now?. Every era. Voice and piano. Nothing else needed.
Darley's burnished baritone — “a voice that could sing the angels to sleep” — shining new light through old windows.
25 minutes of conversation. A short break. 60 minutes of music.
“Always go a little further into the water than you feel you're capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. When you don't feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you're just about in the right place to do something exciting.”
— David Bowie
“A voice that could sing the angels to sleep and wake the devil from his bed.” — Ray Charles
“One of the UK's greatest voices.” — BB King
“A voice that curls your toes, vibrates in your spine and causes your mouth to drop open.” — Evening Standard
