Circle & Star Presents: Fagin — Hero or Villain?
Steve Furst is...
Fagin.
A brand new immersive character study — premiering at Circle & Star. See it first.
Fifteen five-star reviews. The most acclaimed production of Oliver! in recent memory. Now, something entirely new.
The Evening
Part detective story, part love letter, part provocation. Steve inhabits a gallery of characters across two halves — Fagin himself, of course, but also the real man who inspired him, the artists who shaped him, and the people who challenged everything we thought we knew.
The first half traces Fagin from page to stage: the 257 times Dickens wrote "the Jew" instead of his name. The real-life Ikey Solomons — fence, fugitive, escapee — whose extraordinary story Dickens borrowed and never credited. The woman who bought Dickens' own house and confronted him about what he'd done.
The second half belongs to the musical — Lionel Bart's East End genius, the transformation of villain into something audiences couldn't help but love, and why Oliver! changed the question entirely.
Songs. Sketches. Cruikshank's illustrations brought to life. A question that never quite resolves — and one performer holding all of it in a room of fifty-five.
"Steve Furst is superb in the deeply problematic role of Fagin."
The Telegraph
"Steve Furst is equally outstanding as anguished villain Fagin."
Daily Express
"Steve Furst was incredible as Fagin."
Theatre and Tonic
"Probably the best Fagin I've seen."
