In 1997, David Hare visited Israel and the Palestinian territory for the first time. He performed the resulting monologue about the divisions both between and inside the two communities over two hundred times, in the West End and on Broadway. The current three years of war have served to deepen the relevance and urgency of the questions the play once asked. Now, without a word changed, Alex Lawther will read the text twenty-eight years after its first performance, directed, like the original, by Stephen Daldry.
