Water and us: simple actions for healthier rivers
York's rivers connect our communities, support wildlife and shape the city's future. But what can we do, as residents, to help improve river health and build resilience to climate change?
This event forms part of York Environment Festival 2026, which explores how we can build a better future for communities, nature and future generations.
Our interactive discussion will explore practical actions that people can take at home and in their neighbourhoods, from planting and rain gardens to water butts, depaving and sustainable drainage. Together, we'll consider how small local actions can contribute to healthier waterways, richer biodiversity and a more resilient city.
Inspired by the themes explored through the York rivers trail and its wider "The rivers and us" programme, this event will provide an opportunity to learn, ask questions and explore how individuals, communities and organisations can work together to support York's rivers and environment for future generations.
Suitable for anyone interested in nature, climate resilience, water quality and positive local action.
