Brownfield urban regeneration: how to deliver more growth, homes and jobs with the support of communities
Tue 26 Nov 2024 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM GMT
Online, Zoom
Description
To better understand community perspectives on brownfield development, Berkeley Group, British Land, and Landsec partnered with the UK’s leading digital community engagement platform, Commonplace. The collaboration focused on engaging local communities to explore what people want to see happen with brownfield land in their area and identifying the key factors that would increase support for these developments.
As part of this work, they conducted in-depth primary and secondary research, surveying 1,829 individuals across four diverse urban areas: Cambridge, Camden, Manchester, and Newham. This study gathered valuable insights into community sentiment, perceived opportunities for regeneration, potential trade-offs on building heights, and the role of meaningful community engagement in unlocking housing delivery and economic growth.
This new report builds on previous efforts by Berkeley Group, British Land, and Landsec, who collaborated in 2023 to put forward proposals for planning reforms aimed at driving urban regeneration, increasing housing delivery, and boosting economic activity through a focus on brownfield sites.
