CJ The X is an artist and philosopher from Toronto that made their
name through video essays on YouTube, weaving together academic
philosophy and pop culture in their signature chaotic style.
Their
comedy-philosophy live lectures are highly researched deep dives into a
wide array of subjects, from figure skating controversies, to rap
beefs, disputes in Christian theology, internet meme lore and the
financial records of Silicon Valley.
Every lecture is entirely different from the rest. 7 shows, 7 unique performances. Each is distinct, but all work together to build a coherent set of ideas.
See what lecture is performed on what day below. £15 per show.
Lecture: 3:00pm-4:45pm
Intermission: 4:45pm-5:00pm
Q&A: 5:00pm - 5:30pm
Monday August 3: (What You Mean By) “Art Is Subjective”
Is
beauty truly in the eye of the beholder? What does it mean to be
“yourself”? Could personal authenticity be bad for you? Should we let
people enjoy things? Maybe NOT!
Tuesday August 4: Re-Enchanting The World
The
difference between wizards and warlocks. Technology saps the magic from
the world, but we can use picnics and parties re-enchant reality. And
we better do it, or democracy dies.
Wednesday August 5: Optimized Grass Touching
Confessions
of a workaholic: why beautiful processes might mean more than end
results. Threading religious traditions from around the world together
as an antidote to technology driven disenchantment.
Thursday August 6: Male Dating Strategies (Guaranteed 100%)
Why intimacy and love are unsexy & why friction and mystery are hot.
Friday August 7: Does Jesus Care If You Masturbate?
Investigating
the weird online subcultures that have bled into our politics, and the
difficult moral questions that haunt our age. The failures of cancel
culture, drama in ancient Greece, and brain melting love.
Saturday August 8: Mommy, Why Is The Computer Talking?
How
Californian techie culture exported its ideology across the entire
planet, making everything a bit easier and a lot uglier. Dig into the
financial records of some of the biggest companies in the world,
question if capitalism is already over, and decide if AI is going to
kill everyone alive.
Sunday August 9: You’re Not God, I Am!
Analyzing the most pivotal rap battle of
our generation, the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Breaking taboo around social status, and grasping at the meaning behind
thinking of God as a person.

The Biscuit Factory in Leith, EH65NP
