A cancer diagnosis is one of the toughest journey’s many of us will ever face. Strength can be found through shared human experience, stories and remembering those who have gone before us. We have long looked to the stars for guidance and connections through the stories they tell. They evoke remembrance and wonder.

As part of Light the North, the lighthouse trail, a special commission lighthouse by Allan Smith Designs will be installed outside Clan House. One of three interactive lighthouses on display, ‘Shine Bright’ depicts the night sky, with the sculpture adorned in one thousand LED lights that twinkle like stars. Every one of the thousand stars will celebrate the life of someone affected by cancer.

Like stars, Clan provide a light in the dark.

Both provide comfort, hope and guidance through troubling times, and can help us find our place in the world when everything else can feel at sea. While each star is beautiful, the twinkling night sky on its expansive black canvass reminds us that we are part of something greater, and are stronger together when supported by others, like Clan.

This is a truly unique way to recognise the stars in your life who have inspired you with their bravery. There will also be an opportunity at the sculpture to ‘Tap to Donate’ to Clan Cancer Support and experience a unique 30 second light show.
