They Tried to Bury Us: Urban Forage with Jen and Samyel

Sat 21 Nov 2026 11:00 - 15:00 Cork City

'They Tried To Bury Us' is a collection of original songs that gives voice to the silenced: the endangered curlew; Lí Ban of Lough Neagh; lost words of our native tongue; the Rostrevor oak; those seeking refuge on our shores and the Palestinian poets whose words embody defiance and inspire generations. It is an album that rises from the earth against oppression and insists that love and hope will never be buried.

I wanted to organise a series of creative community events that people could really connect with the themes of the album through - from nature to poetry to zine making - and am delighted to have wonderful artists and friends join me on this journey through this series of community workshops (and swims!) around the country.

This workshop, taking place around Cork city, will inspire you to connect with nature in an urban area - to see the resilience and wonder of nature in Cork City - through the cracks, crevices and concrete! Lunch included - meeting place to be shared with participants in advance. Outdoor event - dress for the weather!

About Jen and Sam:

Jen Doran is a practicing herbalist and forager with a deep passion for learning the ways of the body and earth. She sees a direct connection between our internal landscape and the landscapes around us wherein there lies so much medicine and knowledge waiting to be remembered. Jen has trained with many herbalists all over Ireland and now is spending her time sharing her knowledge and teaching people how to reconnect with the medicinal plants that grow all around us through foraging and herbal medicine making workshops. She also runs a herbal clinic within her home of West Cork where she works one on one with people to improve their health.

Samuel Arnold Keane is a forager, illustrator, performer... merging various art forms to tell the stories of the seaweeds, coasts and streets he gathers, wades and walks... At the essence of his creative practice is a passion for the natural world, to share this with others through image, performance, song and word. As a multidisciplinary artist Samuel has long been drawn to collaboration and merging of art forms with practical knowledge, just as his art work blends dreamscape with landscape. The act of foraging bleeds into the creation of seaweed inks onto visuals, words and lyrics are salted by ocean waves and foraging workshops are flooded with story.
