Creative Writing: Men's Group
Welcome. I’m really glad you’re here.
Taking the step to join a group like this isn’t always easy, but you’ve just made a powerful decision for yourself. Over the next six weeks, this space is yours - a safe, supportive, and grounded environment where we can slow down, put pen to paper, and connect. It's a space to navigate the complexities of modern life as men, find strength in community, and share a little levity along the way.
What This Group Is About
Many of us carry a heavy load without a dedicated outlet to process it. We’re often taught to keep our heads down, stay quiet, and handle things alone. This space exists to break that pattern. Here, writing isn't about perfection, grammar, or publishing - it’s a practical tool for self-exploration, clarity, and genuine connection.
Through guided prompts and open discussions, we’ll explore the real stuff:
- Hopes & Dreams: What you actually want out of life when the daily noise fades away.
- Fears & Stressors: Unpacking the quiet pressures and weight we rarely speak out loud.
- Identity & Expectations: Navigating societal pressure, modern expectations, and what it actually means to be a man today.
- Purpose & Direction: Defining your personal values and finding your footing in a fast-moving world.
Fellowship & Vulnerability
While the writing gives voice to what’s inside, the heart of this group is community. You don't have to carry your story alone. In this room, vulnerability isn't a weakness - it's the common ground that builds genuine brotherhood. We are here to listen without judgment, offer support without trying to "fix" one another, and foster a sense of fellowship many of us haven't experienced in years (or ever).
Writing Forms We'll Explore
We’ll keep things low-pressure and accessible, utilizing a variety of expressive forms:
- Microfiction & Short Stories: Bite-sized pieces of narrative that let you explore big ideas without the stress of writing a novel.
- Scenes from the Unwritten Play: Giving life to sudden, vivid, or dramatic scenes that pop into your head out of nowhere.
- Unspoken Conversations: Drafting dialogues, arguments, or heartfelt talks that currently only exist in your mind.
- Freewriting & Expressive Prompts: Guided exercises designed to quiet the inner critic and get your pen moving effortlessly.
Group Agreements
To keep this space safe, grounded, and productive for everyone, we honor four simple principles:
- Confidentiality: What is written and shared in this group stays strictly in this group.
- Zero Critique: We are not here to judge literary technique; we are here to honor expression and truth.
- Respect & Active Listening: When someone speaks or shares, we offer our full, undivided presence.
- Come As You Are: Whether you haven’t picked up a pen since high school or write every day, you belong here.
Grab your notebook, take a deep breath, and let's get started.
