Welcome to Creative Writing: Peace of Mind
Take a deep breath and settle in. You’ve made it, and you can officially lower your shoulders.
If you’ve ever felt the urge to write, but found yourself stopped cold by a blank page, perfectionism, or the day-to-day busyness of life - you are in the right place. This class is designed as a joyful, welcoming sanctuary to help you step away from everyday stressors, get out of your head, and reconnect with your creative spark.
Over six weeks, this low-stakes environment is yours to play, experiment, and find a little levity. Whether you haven't written a creative sentence since middle school or you write every single day, this space offers a refreshing break - a chance to free your mind, open your heart, and just enjoy the process.
What We’ll Explore
Writing is one of the best ways to gain perspective, lighten your mental load, and simply have fun with your imagination. Together, we’ll explore a variety of light, low-pressure forms to get your pen moving effortlessly:
- Microfiction & Flash Stories: Bite-sized narrative prompts that spark instant creativity without the weight of writing a New York Times bestseller.
- Scenes from the Unwritten Story: Giving playful life to sudden, vivid, or funny scenes that pop into your head out of nowhere.
- Unspoken Conversations: Crafting dialogue, humorous exchanges, or heartfelt interactions purely for the joy of exploration.
- Freewriting & Expressive Prompts: Energizing exercises designed to quiet the internal editor and let your creativity flow freely.
Zero Pressure, Full Support
Traditional writing spaces can sometimes feel intimidating. We do things differently here - focusing on ease, warmth, and genuine peace of mind:
- Sharing is Always Optional: You will never be put on the spot or forced to read out loud. If you prefer to write quietly and enjoy listening to others, that is 100% welcome.
- Positive, Uplifting Feedback: When you do choose to share, group feedback focuses strictly on what resonated, what felt alive, and what sparkled. No harsh critiques, no teardowns.
- A Supportive Community: You’ll be surrounded by peers who are all here for the same reason - to pause, recharge, and explore creative writing in a friendly, open atmosphere.
Group Agreements
To keep this a comfortable, stress-free space for everyone, we honor four simple principles:
- Confidentiality: What is written and shared in our class stays in our class.
- Process Over Perfection: We care about the joy of creating, not making everything polished or flawless.
- Total Autonomy: You own your experience. Engage, write, and share at whatever pace feels right for you.
- Kindness First: We hold space for each other’s voices with warmth, respect, and zero judgment.
You don't need to have a grand idea to start - you just need a willingness to play with words and enjoy the breather. By the end of our time together, the goal isn't to walk away with a finished masterpiece; it’s to leave feeling lighter, inspired, and refreshed.
So grab a notebook, pick a pen that feels good in your hand, and let’s begin.
