A workshop with Skye Pennant of Slow Stitch Club

Give a well-loved garment a creative new lease of life in this relaxed, practical two-hour workshop, part of Sustainable Fashion Week 2026 in Bath.

Sashiko is a traditional Japanese technique used to reinforce and repair woven fabrics. In this introductory workshop, Skye will explore how visible stitching can strengthen clothing while celebrating the wear, tear and stories our garments collect.

You’ll learn about the equipment needed to get started and try popular techniques including running stitch, cross stitches and creating decorative patterns. We’ll begin by practising on sample fabrics before moving on to repairing or decorating your own item.

No previous sewing experience is needed—the workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as sewing enthusiasts.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

All workshop materials are provided, with a selection of threads and colours available.

WHAT TO BRING

Please bring a woven or denim garment that you would like to mend or decorate. We recommend choosing something with a relatively small area to repair, or an item you are happy to practise on.

If you need a very specific thread or colour match, please bring this with you.

EXCHANGE

Tickets ranging from £5 > £10 > £15 on a sliding scale. Please pay what you are able to help support the costs, and let us know if payment is a barrier for you.
