Imagining otherwise: climate stories for an unwritten future

Meet Leigh Hoath from Climate Adapted Pathways for Education (CAPE)

The team at Climate Adapted Pathways for Education use an approach grounded in "going slow and going deep" to support educators to deliver an evidence-informed curriculum for climate change and environmental education in schools.

Teaching climate change is not straightforward. Educators in schools face increasing expectations to address this critical issue, but often with limited time, confidence, and access to high-quality support. The subject itself is complex, evolving, and emotionally charged, raising important questions about what to teach, how to teach it, and how to support children and young people in making sense of the world around them.

In this session, Leigh will showcase some of the work CAPE lead including:

• Learning from School Leaders and Teachers – working together to learn about the practicalities of making change happen in schools in partnership together.

• Imagining Otherwise – a new podcast for educators that brings expert knowledge and diverse perspectives directly into schools, supporting schools to explore how climate change can be meaningfully woven into the curriculum.
• Curriculum making guidance to support the implementation of climate change education into subject specific areas of science, geography and art.

With plenty of space for connection, questions and reflections from all who attend.

Climate Courage: stories from the classroom 

This is a series of open calls happening throughout 2025 where teachers, students and more can meet educators who have experience exploring climate distress with young people, hear their stories, learn from their methods, and ask them questions.

These calls are offered as part of the The Climate Courage campaign, which exists to raise awareness that anxiety, denial, depression are sensible responses to learning the truth about climate, and that this distress is leaving millions of young people overwhelmed and teachers unfairly burdened.

All sessions are recorded and we'll share the link with you after the call.

What to expect

• Free regular sessions: These one-hour events will take place monthly throughout 2025.
• Inspiring stories from the classroom: Hear from innovative educators about their classroom climate projects, the resourceful materials they’ve developed, and the positive changes they’ve witnessed.
• Community and connection: A chance to connect with fellow teachers and experts in climate psychology. Each session includes smaller group time and space for questions.
• Practical support: Each session will offer practical insights from peers who are actively addressing climate change in educational settings.
