Join Climate Play’s LEGO® Serious Play® facilitator training and learn the core method of LEGO Serious Play, but applied specifically to the field of sustainability engagement. Climate engagement - powered through play!
We are the only LSP training provider in the world specialising in teaching the method to specifically support sustainability engagement.
You will gain:
- Accreditation as a LEGO Serious Play Facilitator with Climate Play.
- Two days of face-to-face training in London.
- Two hours of online training.
- A training manual, including notes from the training and suggested session plans.
- Additional video and written materials.
- 1:1 support and session plan review from the trainer.
- Free lifetime access to a global community of facilitators and additional resources, through collaboration with our partner, The LSP Method.
Climate Play’s training emphasises how to use LEGO Serious Play in your specific context and teaches you the skills to be flexible and playful in your own approach. It distinctively offers:
- Sustainability context: Taught through climate and sustainability related content.
- Flexible: Emphasis on how you can adapt and apply the method to your context.
- Playful facilitation: Bonus facilitation tips beyond only LEGO Serious Play.
- Learn and practice: Time to learn the theory and test it out with guidance.
What our training includes:
Pre-training
- Optional check-in with the trainer.
- Pre-reading and watching on the history of the method, its uses and learning through play.
Two days face-to-face training in London (1000 - 1700)
- Foundations
- Core principles and history of LEGO Serious Play.
- Creating psychological safety to play and face climate change.
- Pillars of playful learning.
- Model building skills
- Skills builds - getting into the LSP spirit.
- Individual model building.
- Two types of shared model building (these explore collaboration and consensus, and understanding your context or systems mapping).
- Honing your facilitation skills
- Practice facilitating activities.
- Using the approach in conjunction with other approaches.
- Riffs on the approach and adapting it to your context.
- Plenty of facilitation and play-learning tips.
- Adapting the approach and ensuring excellence
- When LEGO Serious Play works best and when it might not.
- Defining your outcomes and the art of good questions.
- What kit to use.
- Session planning basics.
- The business side of things.
- Legal and branding considerations.
1:1 with trainer and session plan review
After completing the face-to-face training each trainee will design a short session plan and review it with the trainer 1:1 online in Nov/Dec.
Online training - Attend live or watch back recording (late Nov/early Dec tbc)
- Detailed session planning tips.
- Deliver and review practice sessions.
- Open discussion and Q&A.
- Graduation!
The date for the online session will be arranged based on the availability of registered attendees. This will be done closer to the time of the training, and so later registrations may not be able to input into the date.
Post-training
- Ongoing support from Climate Play's Founder, Lucy Hawthorne, to put your learning into practice.
- Graduates from this programme also gain free lifetime access to The LSP Method Community, including additional resources, events, peer support and pre-recorded refresher trainings.
Venue and catering
We will train at the beautiful community garden setting of Roots and Shoots, a vocational training and education charity in Zone 1/2 South London. Approx 10-15 minute walk from Kennington, Elephant & Castle or Lambeth North underground stations. Both days are catered with a delicious hot vegan lunch prepared on site, plus refreshments at key breaks.
Certification
To gain certification as a 'LEGO Serious Play for Sustainability Facilitator' with Climate Play, students will complete all components of the training:
- Attend a two day face-to-face training.
- Design a short session plan and review it with the trainer.
- Attend a peer-review online session either live or watch back a recording.
- Read or watch designated additional materials.
Climate Play's Founder, Lucy Hawthorne, is an accredited Pro Trainer and delivery partner of The LSP Method, a global community of LEGO Serious Play facilitators.
- Graduates from this programme also gain free lifetime access to The LSP Method Community, including additional resources, events and peer-peer forum.
Who is this for?
- Educators, consultants, in-house sustainability leads, civil society orgs, facilitators, coaches, comms folk or anyone else who works on sustainability engagement or communication at least some of the time. This training is aimed at helping you improve the engagement work you're already doing by adding new tools to your box.
- People who are familiar with running workshops of some form and have some facilitation or training experience.
This training is NOT suitable for;
- People who don't have at least some facilitation experience. You don't need to be a super expert, but you do need to have a bit of experience in running workshops and understanding of the basics of group dynamics.
- People not doing work related to sustainability some of their time.

Payment online or by installments
You can pay for your place in full via the ticketing options here, but if payment by installments would work better for you then email lucy@climateplay.org to arrange. Full payment must be received prior to the training.
Training prices are tiered to reflect your organisation size. Reduced price tickets are available to support those from under represented backgrounds in sustainability.
