Building Connections - Sustainability Networking with LEGO Serious Play (AMSTERDAM)
Wed 12 Feb 2025 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Office of Mischief Makers, Timorplein 40, 1094 CC Amsterdam
Description
What can we expect?
This will be a different twist on regular networking. Rather than random chats about ‘what do you do?’, we’ll explore the most important, challenging and interesting questions around sustainability that play on your mind. And get to know each other in the process. You will decide the questions we explore and it doesn’t matter how much you know about the topic or what your role is. All questions are anonymous and so it is a space to open up conversation on things that might be hard to discuss otherwise.
But instead of just talking about your questions, we will build our answers with LEGO, and then chat. Eg:
- What balance should there be on mitigation and adaptation initiatives?
- What would regenerative, rather than sustainability focused funding look like?
- I feel miserable about the state of the world. Should I lie to my clients that I feel positive?
- If I had a billion Euros to spend on sustainability, how would I spend it?
- How can I make my work more inclusive?
- How can community groups influence national and global thinking?
NB: For learning nerds, this is a simplified version of a facilitation approach called an UnConference.
We'll also have space for regular chats too. Expect an informal, but informative vibe!
Who is this for?
Anyone working or volunteering in sustainability and who is interested to connect in a different way for an evening.
How does the LEGO fit in?
We will be using a method called LEGO Serious Play where we will talk ‘through’ the bricks. The bricks are treated as metaphors and you may be surprised at the inventive, personal and insightful stories you and other people will build.
No ‘creativity’ is required. It doesn’t matter what you build looks like, it only matters what it means to you. And we’ll walk you through how it works. Curious? Come and experience it for yourself.
Your facilitators
Lucy Hawthorne, Founder, Trainer and Facilitator, Climate Play.
Lucy is a trainer, facilitator and former environmental campaigner who specialises in play-based climate engagement that helps people to engage more deeply, honestly and creatively in the topic. At Climate Play she delivers the world's only LEGO Serious Play training specifically focused on sustainability and is building a community of trainees, Climate Players, who are taking the method into organisations and communities to catalyse climate action.
Perle Laouenan-Catchpole, Founder and Chief Facilitator, Need Workshops
Perle is an expert facilitator and experience designer. She unleashes her creativity to deepen human connections. She works with a wide range of organizations internationally (corporations, NGOs, scale-ups, and communities), allowing her to cross-pollinate and intentionally design rich and meaningful participatory processes within multi-stakeholder and cultural environments.
Refreshments
This is an informal event with some drinks and snacks. We are using the office space of Mischief Makers and so there is no bar or formal catering. Feel free to bring your own too if you like.
Costs
This event is run at cost price and pay what you can, so we're just looking to cover a contribution for the venue. Pay what you can, because we're all earning different amounts :) As a guide, if you can afford it then €20-25 would be great, or a lower amount is also absolutely okay.
Venue
There is some building work happening at the venue so there may be disruption at the entrance. This means there may not be a functioning lift and so we'll have to use the stairs. Apologies that this affects inclusivity of this venue at this time.
