Demonstration: Knitting with Gold, Silver & Diamonds with Teri Howes
Need help?
Crochet and French knitting are both ancient techniques in textile making — but did you know that they can be used in jewellery making as well?
In this demonstration, jewellery designer Teri Howes will showcase three different textiles techniques that she uses to create miniature metal masterpieces in 18ct gold and fine silver, incorporating diamonds, pearls and semi-precious stones. Exploring French knitting, crochet and wire knitting, visitors will have the chance to learn about the versatility of these techniques and how Teri utilises them to craft her beautiful netted structures that resemble fine lace dotted with diamonds that ripple and move sinuously in contrast to how we expect a metal to behave.
About the Maker
Teri Howes is an award-winning jewellery designer whose unique practice combines traditional textile techniques with unconventional jewellery design. Her use of intricate hand crochet techniques in pure gold has become her signature style.
