From César Augusto Acevedo, the internationally acclaimed, Caméra d'Or-winning director of Land and Shade (La tierra y la sombra), comes Horizon (Horizonte), a profound and ghostly cinematic experience that celebrated its World Premiere in the Discovery Selection at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Horizonte Trailer.

Synopsis:

In this haunting, poetic masterpiece, Inés and her son Basilio reunite in death. They find themselves bound to embark on a harrowing physical and spiritual journey through a ghostly, surreal landscape completely devastated by the phantom scars of war. As they traverse ruined towns, abandoned fields, and rivers turned into open cemeteries looking for a missing patriarch, a dark truth is unraveled. Basilio, who committed terrible acts as a criminal in life, is forced to relive the horror of his past deeds with his mother as a silent witness. In a land where all earthly hope seems lost, only through immense sacrifice can they navigate their trauma to reach the redemption they seek.

Short Description: The Official Selection & Festival Context

The Official Selection forms the central heartbeat of the first edition of the London Colombian Film Festival. Operating in absolute harmony with the festival's overarching general objective, this selection deliberately spotlights uncommon cinematographic narratives that break away from the predictable global headlines of violence and drugs. By redirecting international lenses toward the deep resilience, profound magic, immense talent, and artistic dreams at the core of the culture, the program uncovers a richer, far more complex portrait of Colombian identity.

This screening perfectly anchors the festival's defining theme: "Celebrating Diversity of Voices." Rather than relying on traditional political reporting or conventional war dramas, Horizon elevates an artistic and unique perspective on conflict. It constructs a allegorical, poetic universe where victims and victimizers face spiritual reckoning beyond the grave. Acevedo uses this ghostly narrative voice to delve into deep social trauma, the pain of mothers, and the complex psychological machinery of forgiveness. The film stands as an unmissable example of the incredible aesthetic maturity of contemporary Colombian cinema, proving its power to subvert traditional genres to address historical memory and human dignity on a global stage.

Join us at Genesis Cinema for an extraordinary, visually spectacular evening of storytelling that challenges the boundaries of life, death, and cinema.
