Neurodiversity in Sport: An Introduction to Inclusive Coaching

Want to make your coaching more inclusive, but not sure where to start?

Neurodiversity is part of every sporting community. Coaches, participants, volunteers and families all bring different ways of thinking, communicating, processing information and experiencing the environments around them.

This practical, interactive 90-minute online workshop will introduce neurodiversity in a sporting context and explore simple changes that can help people feel understood, included and able to thrive.

We’ll explore:

  • What neurodiversity means and why it matters in sport
  • How communication, sensory environments and the way sessions are structured can affect people's experiences
  • Practical strategies for making coaching and instruction more inclusive
  • How we can look beyond behaviour and avoid assumptions
  • Ways to create greater belonging and psychological safety within sport

There will be opportunities for discussion, reflection and questions throughout, with practical ideas you can take back to your own setting.

Who is it for?

Sports coaches, instructors, PE professionals, volunteers, club staff and others involved in delivering or supporting sport. You don't need any previous knowledge of neurodiversity.
